Boots up from SATA with a custom-compiled Attitude Adjustment (12.09) kernel. Kernel needs SATA AHCI support compiled in to boot from SATA. Correct ethernet driver is e1000e (can be a module package).
Hardware Highlights
The CPU is a 32-bit x86 Intel Atom. There is an upgradable built-in BIOS, an external serial port (DB9), LEDs and temperature sensors, a management (watchdog) microcontroller, and an “extra” FPGA connected to GPIO pins.
The device has 4x gigabit ethernet ports connected to an Intel switch chip. There is no wireless connectivity by default: it can be added via the internal miniPCIe slot, the internal PCIe slot, or USB. It does not ship with any permanent disk space by default: storage can be added via internal SATA ports, an mSATA/miniPCIe slot, or USB ports (the bootloader can be configured to load from any of these devices).

Upgrading OpenWrt
As of Attitude Adjustment 12.09, x86-based images can be upgraded using sysupgrade. Use a regular “combined” .img file (squashfs confirmed from command-line, ext4 maybe?, luci maybe?).

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.
