Broadcom DSL
- Broadcom's support for open source Linux drivers is chequered.
- For a period, Broadcom did not support open source driver development for Linux at all.
- OpenWrt attempts to only use free and open source Linux kernel drivers.
- Fully open-source support for the majority of Broadcom DSL chips does not exist.
Consequences
DSL will not work with OpenWrt on devices which contain a BCM63xx SoC.
For details please see Unsupported features and Broadcom BCM63xx.
As a result, it would be unrealistic to install OpenWrt onto a device and expect the Broadcom DSL modem to function at all.
Please be aware of this prior to installing OpenWrt or purchasing a device.
