Enterasys WS-AP3715i
The Enterasys WS-AP3715i is an enterprise Accesspoint normally sold together with a wifi controller, from which it would be configured. Its manufacturer support already ended. OpenWRT liberates it into standalone device with 802.3af POE.

Hardware Highlights
Installation
1. Grab the OpenWrt initramfs, rename it to ap3715.bin. Place it in the root directory of a TFTP server and serve it at `192.168.1.66/24`.
2. Connect to the serial port and boot the AP. Stop autoboot in U-Boot by pressing Enter when prompted. Credentials are identical to the one in the APs interface. By default it is admin / new2day.
3. Alter the bootcmd in U-Boot:
setenv ramboot_openwrt "setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.1; setenv serverip 192.168.1.66; tftpboot 0x2000000 ap3715.bin; bootm"
setenv boot_openwrt "sf probe 0; sf read 0x2000000 0x140000 0x1000000; bootm 0x2000000"
setenv bootcmd "run boot_openwrt"
saveenv
4. Boot the initramfs image
run ramboot_openwrt
5. Transfer the OpenWrt sysupgrade image to the AP using SCP. Install using sysupgrade.
sysupgrade -n <path-to-sysupgrade.bin>

Backup and restore OEM firmware
The manufacturer does not provide a flashable image. To reinstall the OEM firmware, one has to flash a previous backup of the router back on its flash.
Backup
To create such a backup, you can follow the generic backup instructions for a full mtd backup.
This guide worked well: Create full MTD backup
Upgrading OpenWrt
These are generic instructions. Update with your router's specifics.
LuCI Web Upgrade Process
- Browse to
http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/mini/system/upgrade/
LuCI Upgrade URL - Upload image file for sysupgrade to LuCI
- Wait for reboot
Terminal Upgrade Process
If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line. There are two command line methods for upgrading:
sysupgrade
mtd
Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.
sysupgrade
- Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc
mtd
If sysupgrade
does not support this router, use mtd
.
- Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc mtd write /tmp/xxx.abc linux && reboot

vlan0 (eth0.0) | EXAMPLE LAN ports (1 to 4) | EXAMPLE None |
vlan1 (eth0.1) | EXAMPLE WAN port | EXAMPLE DHCP |
wl0 | EXAMPLE WiFi | EXAMPLE Disabled |
Switch Ports (for VLANs)
Please fill in real values for this device, then remove the EXAMPLEs
Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.
Port | Switch port |

Internet (WAN) | EXAMPLE 4 |
LAN 1 | EXAMPLE 3 |
