Installation
OpenWrt factory firmware can be installed through tftp:
- In the D-link interface under administration: enable ssh (or telnet)
- Install and run an tftp server on your host, make OpenWrt firmware file available on this tftp server
- Connect to DAP-2695 from that same host using putty (or any other ssh client)
- In the DAP-2695 command line interface type (replace name of firmware and host ip-address, respectively):
tftp getfirmware dap2553-firmware-v100-r0018.bin 192.168.3.90
- After successful download, type:
reboot
- OpenWrt is now installed and running. Continue with the Quick start guide.
Recovery
- If a flash update fails the router will enter a reboot cycle. Recover with the emergency web server, enabled via the console port.
- Connect via serial cable to the console port. Settings are 115200, 8n1. (Default except for the speed for many serial console applications.)
- Connect the WAN or LAN (it does not matter which) Ethernet port to a switch you can reach with a PC.
- Watch the boot messages. After the device BIOS loads, there is a three second countdown before the flash image is read. Press 'q' during this period.
- If the device detects an Ethernet connection, an emergency web server is available at 192.168.0.50
- Upload a factory image via the web portal, and restart when prompted.
Recovery notes:
- D-Link provides a serial console cable with a new modem. This can be connected to a PC with a USB to serial adapter. (Tested May, 2020)
- File uploads via the emergency web portal may be browser dependent. Watch the serial console during uploads. In May, 2020 uploads with Firefox 76.0.1 failed with multiple checksum errors on the console output. Uploads with Chromium on the same machine were successful. If the upload fails, the device will eventually time out and reboot on its own.
- If neither network port is connected, the emergency web server will not start. Pressing 'q' again will lead you to shell access on the console port, where an image may be uploaded via kermit protocol. Type 'help' for a list of supported commands.
