D-Link DAP-1620

The D-Link DAP-1620 is a dual-band Wi-Fi range extender with one LAN port that can be used for backhaul.

It has two hardware revisions, A1/A2 and B, which share a common outer shell but use substantially different hardware (see below). Revisions A1 and A2 use the exact same hardware but differ in how they are manufactured. Revision A1/A2 is marketed as AC1200 (300 + 866 Mbps) and Revision B as AC1300 (400 + 866 Mbps).

Since it is mains-powered, there are regional variants of the enclosure (US, EU, UK, and possibly others). However, the firmware and internal hardware are not affected by these regional differences. Revision B1 uses 100–240 V AC to 12 V, 0.75 A DC converter, while revisions A1/A2 use a 5 V power supply.

OpenWrt support

  • Revision A support should be available after #17027 is merged.
  • Revision B is supported since release 23.05 (see e4c7703d2).

The SPI flash in rev A is Macronix MX25L6406E which appears to be a compatible replacement for MX25L6405D. In rev B it is Macronix MX25L12835F.
