OEM easy installation
WARNING: The stock u-boot will fail to load a kernel after the kernel reaches a certain size. The snapshot builds are commonly that size.
It is ideal to have a serial connection to verify u-boot loads the kernel, but if you don't have one the upgrade will just stall forever and you can reload the stock firmware from Option 1 below.
The snapshot builds as of 4/1/19 will fail and the kernel is over 1.6M. If you do a local build through the image builder using the release config.seed the kernel is smaller 1.5M and will load.
Option 1 (from bootloader web)
This is the easier option. It uses a tiny web server in the stock u-boot bootloader. So you are using u-boot to update flash directly without loading the stock firmware. This skips some of the oddities and validations that the full stock firmware applies on image updates.
- Hold reset button on the back of router when plugging in power (for at-least 10 seconds after plugged in)
- Connect to a Lan port
- Set computer IP to 10.10.10.3
- Go to http://10.10.10.123 in a web browser
- Click the Browse… Button and select the *squashfs.sysupgrade.bin file then click APPLY
Option 2 (from the stock admin web)
- Go to firmware upgrade
- Upload the factory image *initramfs.bin first
- Boot into openwrt
- From Luci web in openwrt upload the *squashfs.sysupgrade.bin
OEM installation using the TFTP method
TFTP from stock is likely possible although has not been verified. The OEM easy installation - option 1 above has been verified and does not require any TFTP software on your PC. TFTP from serial has been verified to work with the ip addresses below
