Aruba AP-365
The Aruba AP-365 is a outdoor 2×2 802.11ac Wave 2 access point. It is fairly powerful with a quad-core ARM processor and 512 MB of memory. The Aruba Instant On AP17 is a much cheaper version of this device and is based on the same platform, the OpenWrt firmware for Aruba AP-365 can also be flashed onto the Aruba Instant On AP17.

Installation
→ Install OpenWrt (generic explanation)
- Get the OpenWrt initramfs image. Rename it to
ipq40xx.ariand put it into the TFTP server root directory. Configure the TFTP server to be reachable at 192.168.1.75/24. Connect the machine running the TFTP server to the ethernet port of the access point. - Connect to the serial console. Interrupt autobooting by pressing Enter when prompted.
- Configure the bootargs and bootcmd for OpenWrt
$ setenv bootargs_openwrt "setenv bootargs console=ttyMSM1,9600n8" $ setenv nandboot_openwrt "run bootargs_openwrt; ubi part aos1; ubi read 0x85000000 kernel; bootm 0x85000000" $ setenv ramboot_openwrt "run bootargs_openwrt; setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.105; setenv serverip 192.168.1.75; netget; set fdt_high 0x87000000; bootm" $ setenv bootcmd "run nandboot_openwrt" $ saveenv
- Load OpenWrt into RAM
$ run ramboot_openwrt
- After OpenWrt booted, transfer the OpenWrt sysupgrade image to the
/tmpfolder on the device. - Flash OpenWrt: Make sure you use the mtd partition with the label “ubi” here!
$ ubidetach -p /dev/mtd1 $ ubiformat /dev/mtd1 $ sysupgrade -n /tmp/openwrt-sysupgrade.bin
Back to stock
To go back to the stock firmware, simply reset the bootcmd in the bootloader to the original value:
$ setenv bootcmd "boot" $ saveenv

LuCI Web Upgrade Process
- Browse to
http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/mini/system/upgrade/LuCI Upgrade URL - Upload image file for sysupgrade to LuCI
- Wait for reboot
Terminal Upgrade Process
If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line. There are two command line methods for upgrading:
sysupgrademtd
Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.
sysupgrade
- Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc
mtd
If sysupgrade does not support this router, use mtd.
- Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc mtd write /tmp/xxx.abc linux && reboot

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.
