Installation from the built-in Uboot web UI
This is the safest and quickest way to flash OpenWrt on this (and most other) GL-inet devices.
The Uboot web UI installation works independently of running OpenWrt firmware, OEM firmware, or a bricked firmware.
Note: This is not the same thing as “Web Failsafe”.
The procedure is summarized below:
- Download the .ubi image from the OpenWrt Downloads page, or the Firmware Selector page.
- If using the Firmware selector, you can choose to pre-configure a custom image if you wish.
- Configure your computer ethernet interface with a static IP address of 192.168.1.2.
- Connect an ethernet cable from a LAN port (any of ports lan1 or lan2) of the AXT1800 to the ethernet port of your computer.
- Unplug the power cord from the AXT1800.
- Press and hold the “Reset” button on the AXT1800, then plug in the power lead while still holding the button.
- Keep holding the button and wait for the LED to stabilize (about 10 seconds, you will see it flash blue, then change to solid white). Then release the button.
- On your computer web browser, go to 192.168.1.1, you will see the u-boot web interface.
- Select your downloaded .ubi image then click upload, you should see “Update in progress”.
- The AXT1800 will reboot and you should be able to SSH into 192.168.1.1 and install additional packages and/or to continue configuring the AXT1800.
- Don't forget to set your computer back from static to DHCP when you have finished.
General Notes:
- Once running official OpenWrt you may keep settings on sysupgrades.
- If creating an initial custom image do not leave the “Script to run on first boot (uci-defaults)” box empty. If you do, the default flash will be to “Keep Configuration”, potentially causing problems. A simple `#` entered into the box is sufficient.
