AVM FRITZ!Repeater 3000

The AVM FRITZ!Repeater 3000 is technically very similar to the AVM FRITZ!Repeater 1200 but is not a wallplug device. It has two LAN ports.

→ Install OpenWrt (generic explanation)

1. Grab the uboot for the Device from the u-boot-fritz3000 subdirectory. Place it in the same directory as the eva_ramboot.py script. It is located in the scripts/flashing subdirectory of the OpenWrt tree.
2. Assign yourself the IP address 192.168.178.10/24. Connect your computer to one of the two LAN ports.
3. Open three times a commandline
4. 1st. cmd-window pings the 192.168.178.1 continuously
   2nd. cmd-window pings the 192.168.178.2 continuously,
   3rd. cmd-window Hold everything ready to fire up the follow comand:

   > ./eva_ramboot.py --offset 0x85000000 192.168.178.1 uboot-fritz3000.bin

5. Connect power to the box and take a look to the window where you ping 192.168.178.1. If there will be a respone, you have to execute the command above
   If you get an response from 192.168.178.2 - you are to late and you have to repower it.
6. The U-Boot will now start. Now assign yourself the IP address 192.168.1.70/24. Copy the OpenWrt initramfs (!) image to a TFTP server root directory and rename it to FRITZ3000.bin.
7. The box will now boot OpenWrt from RAM. This can take up to two minutes.
   At this Point, you can open the Webgui, but WIFI is missing, in cause of missing “Firmware/Packages”
8. Copy the U-Boot and the OpenWrt sysupgrade (!) image to the box using scp. SSH into the box and first write the bootloader to both previous kernel partitions:
   

      > mtd write /path/to/uboot-fritz3000.bin uboot0
      > mtd write /path/to/uboot-fritz3000.bin uboot1

9. Remove the AVM filesystem partitions to make room for our kernel + rootfs + overlayfs:
   

      > ubirmvol /dev/ubi0 --name=avm_filesys_0
      > ubirmvol /dev/ubi0 --name=avm_filesys_1

10. Flash OpenWrt peristently using sysupgrade:
    

       > sysupgrade -n /path/to/openwrt-sysupgrade.bin

→ generic.sysupgrade

cd /tmp
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc
sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc

cd /tmp
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc
mtd write /tmp/xxx.abc linux && reboot

After successfully installing OpenWrt on the Fritz Repeater 3000, I messed up the network configuration, which no longer allowed me to access it. I couldn't even reset it using the only button available on the repeater.

Upon rebooting, I noticed that the IP address 192.168.178.1 was always present at startup.

So I used the Fritz Recovery tool from here: https://download.avm.de/fritzwlan/ and ran it on a Windows machine (of course), which reinstalled FritzOS. However, I no longer had access to the 192.168.178.1 address.

While searching online, I found the EVADiscover script (https://github.com/PeterPawn/YourFritz/blob/main/eva_tools/EVA-Discover.ps1), which allowed me to access the 192.168.178.1 IP address again, even though the execution ended with an error.

After that, I was able to reinstall OpenWrt again.

Set up your Internet connection, configure wireless, configure USB port, etc.
