[00:00] <LinkLin_> no, never
[00:00] <nullboy> LinkLin_: what image did you flash do it?
[00:00] <LinkLin_> Kamikaze 7.09,
[00:00] <nullboy> image name
[00:00] <Cisien> what file name
[00:01] <LinkLin_> Kernel 2.4.34, wait a minute , have to look for the filename
[00:01] <Cisien> uname -a output would work
[00:01] <nullboy> LinkLin_: on the router do: uname -a
[00:01] <nullboy> ha
[00:02] <LinkLin_> openwrt-wrt54g-2.4-squashfs.bin
[00:02] <nullboy> ok
[00:02] <nullboy> here's what i'd do, first of all...make it work as a plain AP first
[00:03] <LinkLin_> ok
[00:03] <nullboy> no encryption
[00:03] <nullboy> just open ap
[00:03] <LinkLin_> ok
[00:03] <nullboy> get a client to associate to it that way first, then enable psk on it and get it working like that
[00:03] <nullboy> then move further
[00:04] <LinkLin_> i'll try it right now
[00:04] <LinkLin_> thanks
[00:04] <nullboy> LinkLin_: do you have hostapd installed?
[00:04] <nullboy> and wpa_supplicant
[00:05] <LinkLin_> i just don't know, how can i check ?
[00:05] <nullboy> type: host then hit tab a few times
[00:05] <nullboy> see if hostap in there
[00:06] <Cisien> nullboy, i think he's using broadcom
[00:06] <Cisien> which means he needs nas
[00:06] <nullboy> oh crap
[00:06] <nullboy> i'm not up on my broadcom stuff
[00:06] <LinkLin_> yes, linksys & broadcom
[00:07] <nullboy> ok then is nas installed? ;)
[00:07] <LinkLin_> same procedure to check as above ?
[00:07] <nullboy> i dunno
[00:07] <Cisien> ipkg list_installed | grep nas
[00:07] <nullboy> i'm blind now
[00:07] <LinkLin_> yes, nas is there
[00:07] <Cisien> ok
[00:10] <LinkLin_> tried the AP only Config and get the same error Messages: ... no such devices
[00:11] <nullboy> something is not happt
[00:11] <nullboy> y
[00:12] <LinkLin_> yes thats true :(
[00:14] <LinkLin_> if i try : "ifconfig w10 up" i get the same "No such device" error
[00:16] <LinkLin_> But after all i can see this AP with my WLAN USB Stick ...
[00:16] <Cisien> it should be wl0
[00:16] <Cisien> that is an L not a 1
[00:17] <LinkLin_> ohh
[00:17] <LinkLin_> i'll change it
[00:20] <LinkLin_> i can't believ it , thanks so much :)
[00:20] <LinkLin_> i thought that's just a name :(
[00:21] <LinkLin_> i had to change to wl0 in wireless and network config and the "device not found" is history *g*
[00:21] <Cisien> :)
[00:22] <Cisien> just like in gentoo, in /etc/make.conf, you can change the gcc optimization flags by setting -Ox (x being 2/3, etc), well, the first time i changed it, i thought it was a zero
[00:22] <Cisien> -0x
[00:24] <thal> i am having problems connecting to a pptp daemon outside the lan, the openwrt iptables ruleset seems to block the GRE protocol and tcpdump reports "protocol 47 unreachable" .. any ideas?
[00:25] <Cisien> un block protocol 47
[00:26] <LinkLin_> these r very special expierences
[00:26] <LinkLin_> tomorrow i'll try the next step
[00:26] <LinkLin_> Thanks for all and ...
[00:26] <LinkLin_> bye
[00:26] <Cisien> later
[00:26] <Cisien> thal: http://cisien.pastebin.com/md0ab147
[00:27] <Cisien> thats from /etc/firewall.user
[00:27] <Cisien> what your looking for is probably the last two lines
[00:27] <thal> Cisien: thank you
[00:31] <thal> Cisien: doesnt work, still an icmp error with "port 47 unreachable" is sent to the remote vpn server
[00:31] <Cisien> are you trying that from your router?
[00:32] <Cisien> wait, port 47, or protocol 47?
[00:32] <thal> Cisien: sure, proto 47, of course!
[00:33] <thal> Cisien: i am logged in to the openwrt box, running tcpdump and iptables directly
[00:33] <Cisien> but what device is the client run on?
[00:33] <Cisien> and the server
[00:34] <Weedy> J4k3, oi
[00:34] <thal> Cisien: client macos x on the lan network, server foobar-apple-vpn server on the intarnat
[00:35] <Cisien> hrm
[00:35] <Cisien> all those rules were set for is to allow proto 47 connections to the router
[00:36] <thal> Cisien: yeah right, the pasted 2 ones...i have them inserted
[00:36] <Cisien> you don't need to connect to the router, you need to connect through it
[00:36] <Cisien> i don't know enough about vpn and how it acts with nat though
[00:36] <thal> Cisien: well, yes. of course via a public v4 ip
[00:46] <forum2006> .
[00:56] <StefanG> what can be the reason if a wrt54gl does not want to be flashed using tftp even if boot_wait=on?
[00:57] <Cisien> what file are you trying to flash
[00:57] <Cisien> are you using the liksys client?
[00:58] <StefanG> i am using tftp
[00:58] <Cisien> i beleive you need the linksys tftp client
[00:58] <StefanG> in the moment freewrt is on the device
[00:58] <Cisien> and the .bin file
[00:58] <StefanG> i have the .bin file
[00:58] <Cisien> you may need the .trx file if you don't need the linksys tftp client
[00:58] <StefanG> why is there a special tftp client for that?
[00:58] <Cisien> cause linksys made it that way
[00:59] <StefanG> i always used the normal tftp from debian
[00:59] <StefanG> is that new with the gl?
[00:59] <Cisien> they use it for password protection, i beleive
[00:59] <StefanG> ohh
[00:59] <StefanG> where do i get it?
[00:59] <Cisien> linksys website? I don't know if you need it for your model or not
[00:59] <StefanG> hmmm :/
[00:59] <StefanG> lets try
[00:59] <Cisien> may just be able to use the normal *nix tftp client and the .trx file
[01:00] <Cisien> i never flashed via tftp other than from within reboot
[01:00] <StefanG> what else are you using?
[01:01] <Cisien> i used the web interface on my linksys wrtsl54gs and my asus wl-500gP
[01:01] <Cisien> redboot on my fonera
[01:02] <StefanG> hmmm
[01:02] <StefanG> there is a freewrt running in the moment .. web interface is not an option for me
[01:02] <Cisien> does freewrt have a utility to write to the flash (such as mtd or fis)
[01:03] <StefanG> i think it has
[01:04] <StefanG> freewrt is a openwrt fork .. it has many things from openwrt :)
[01:04] <Cisien> type 'cat /proc/mtd' and pastebin me the output
[01:04] <Cisien> november2, you can get a copy of cfe from cfe, i beleive
[01:05] <StefanG> http://pastebin.com/m42841009
[01:05] <Cisien> type mtd -r write file.trx linux
[01:06] <Cisien> file.trx being the firmware you downloaded
[01:06] <StefanG> so i download the firmware directly to the wrt?
[01:07] <Cisien> yes, download it to /tmp
[01:08] <StefanG> ok, will try
[01:14] <forum2006> .
[01:14] <Cisien> forum2006, why do you keep sending '.' to the channel?
[01:16] <jnorthe> is it a goog idea to split wlan and wan; both are connected through vlan
[01:17] <Cisien> they generally are split
[01:17] <Cisien> LAN and WLAN are joined via a bridge
[01:18] <jnorthe> a second, asus wl500gp is booting ;-)
[01:18] <Cisien> the WAN and LAN share the same switch
[01:18] <Cisien> seperated by vlans
[01:19] <jnorthe> option vlan0 "1 2 3 4 5*" AND option vlan1 "0 5"
[01:19] <StefanG> Cisien: little problem:
[01:19] <jnorthe> port 5 is tagged
[01:19] <Cisien> yeah, port 5 is what connects the two vlans to the cpu
[01:19] <StefanG> http://pastebin.com/m30e16b56
[01:19] <jnorthe> so port 5 is the connection for both
[01:19] <Cisien> port 5 is the virtual uplink port, basically
[01:20] <StefanG> think this is caused by freewrt .. should i just reboot?
[01:20] <Cisien> it's what connects the switch hardware to the ethernet port
[01:20] <jnorthe> 0 = wan; port 1 up to port 4 lan (swich) port 5 = wlan
[01:20] <Cisien> yeah, just reboot
[01:20] <Cisien> jnorthe, naw, port5 is the uplink
[01:21] <StefanG> ahh, im in :D
[01:21] <StefanG> *happy*
[01:21] <Cisien> wlan is wl0 or wifi0
[01:21] <Cisien> it's another physical interface
[01:21] <Cisien> it's joined with the LAN (and switch) via a virtual bridge
[01:21] <jnorthe> aaah
[01:22] <jnorthe> and as you say (i installed an atheros card) ath0 is separate
[01:22] <Cisien> yeah, ath0
[01:23] <Cisien> what atheros card are you using?
[01:24] <jnorthe> TP-Link TL-WN660G
[01:24] <Cisien> cool
[01:24] <Cisien> i just bought a EMP-8602S for mine
[01:25] <jnorthe> it works realy fine!
[01:25] <jnorthe> do you use shorewall ??
[01:26] <Cisien> no, just the normal iptables firewall
[01:26] <jnorthe> shit
[01:27] <Cisien> isn't shorewall just a frontend to iptables?
[01:27] <jnorthe> no--- i use shorewall since -at least 5 years and thought to port it on my wl500gp
[01:27] <Cisien> go ahead :)
[01:27] <jnorthe> no and yes ; it makes it easier to configure a quite complex firewall
[01:28] <jnorthe> without worring about smurf ports like 123 ident
[01:29] <jnorthe> therefore my initial question, how to split wan and wlan ports
[01:29] <Cisien> you don't need to
[01:33] <jnorthe> kamikaze is quite a sexy think; I`ve installed a creative webcam and also a 2½ inch disk for recordig a pic @ 10 sec
[01:34] <Cisien> jnorthe :)
[01:34] <Agiofws> doe sthe fonera+ have 2 eth ports ?
[01:34] <Agiofws> on it ?
[01:34] <Cisien> http://www.exoronet.net/wl500/cimg1388.jpg
[01:34] <Cisien> Agiofws, yes
[01:34] <frostschutz> fonera+ yes I think so, normal fonera no
[01:34] <Cisien> but people are having issues with the fonera+
[01:34] <Agiofws> Cisien, as ?
[01:34] <Cisien> ethernet ports not working
[01:35] <frostschutz> Cisien: does that still fit in the case? ;)
[01:35] <Agiofws> well you know what
[01:35] <Cisien> frostschutz, yeah, easily
[01:35] <Cisien> the wl500gP case is huge
[01:35] <Cisien> it's a 2.5" drive
[01:35] <Agiofws> Cisien, i have a simple fon and if its not bridged to th wifi NIC the eth nic does not work
[01:35] <frostschutz> looks a bit dangerous that
[01:36] <Cisien> frostschutz how so? anything that may come in contact is insulated with double sided tape
[01:36] <Cisien> the foam kind
[01:36] <frostschutz> but oh well, if I ever need a hard disk for the thing I'll probably do it in such a fashion too
[01:36] <frostschutz> :D
[01:36] <frostschutz> I'm not a fan of ASUS stuff usually but this device is really nice
[01:36] <Cisien> i just ordered an atheros minipci card to use in place of the brcm one
[01:37] <frostschutz> I don't use WLAN at all
[01:37] <frostschutz> I just wanted a Linux router in a box so I can run my own custom iptables / qos setup on it
[01:37] <Cisien> I do for my print server (wrtsl54gs) and my laptop
[01:40] <Agiofws> Cisien, what is that in the PPIC ?
[01:40] <Cisien> wl500gP
[01:41] <IvanDolvich> if i try to flash any image onto it (with the asus recovery tool), it appears as if everything works fine, but after reboot of the box, the pwr led just flashes in 2 sec interval.
[01:41] <Cisien> telnet to it?
[01:41] <IvanDolvich> Nope, no connection, on the serial console i see the message "Boot program checksum is invalid"
[01:42] <Cisien> setup a tftp server, then tftp from cfe, since you have boot access
[01:42] <Agiofws> Cisien, linksys ?
[01:42] <Cisien> tftp the .trx file
[01:42] <Cisien> Agiofws Asus
[01:42] <Agiofws> you have hacked it ? is it a router ?
[01:42] <IvanDolvich> i tried already flashing by tftp server, during the flash process i see the message "Programing..." and then the box hangs.
[01:43] <Cisien> Agiofws, 'hacked it'
[01:43] <Cisien> google wl-500g Premium
[01:43] <Cisien> you'll findout what it is
[01:44] <Agiofws> Cisien, only firmware ?
[01:44] <Agiofws> or hardware aswell ?
[01:44] <Cisien> what?
[01:44] <Agiofws> you connected a drive to it ?
[01:44] <Cisien> via usb
[01:45] <Agiofws> hy so ?
[01:45] <Agiofws> why ?
[01:45] <Cisien> http://www.exoronet.net/wl500/cimg1386.jpg this pic shows the usb cable i soldered to the bottom of the headers
[01:45] <Agiofws> and flashed with kamikazi ?
[01:45] <Cisien> ...because i wanted to put a usb hard drive in the thing
[01:45] <Cisien> yes
[01:45] <Agiofws> yes :)
[01:46] <Agiofws> but what for ?
[01:46] <Cisien> 80gb of storage?
[01:46] <Agiofws> yes
[01:46] <Agiofws> torrents ?
[01:46] <Cisien> dunno
[01:46] <Agiofws> i wonder if you can do that on a fonera ?
[01:47] <Cisien> you can attach a mmc card
[01:47] <Agiofws> yeah a i know
[01:47] <forum2006> .oO
[01:47] <Agiofws> but a drive is better
[01:47] <Cisien> http://www.exoronet.net/fon/cimg1361.jpg
[01:47] <forum2006> forget the fonera crap
[01:47] <Agiofws> maybe you can install a proper distro on it ?
[01:47] <Cisien> you only have 4 gpio pins to play with
[01:47] <Agiofws> forum2006, why ?
[01:48] <Cisien> you can do more with a usb port
[01:48] <ido_> why do i need to edit /etc/firewall.user instead of /etc/init.d/S35firewall?
[01:48] <Agiofws> Cisien, you think you could stream media files off it ?
[01:49] <Agiofws> or even use samba on it ?
[01:49] <Cisien> yeah, read speed for this is about 4.6MB/s
[01:49] <Cisien> plenty for streaming
[01:49] <Agiofws> its quiet aswell
[01:50] <Agiofws> even wirelessly
[01:50] <Cisien> may be able to tune it for better speed
[01:51] <Agiofws> one of the pics was a fonera right ?
[01:52] <Cisien> the last one was my fonera with a sd card added to it
[01:52] <Agiofws> youthink a fonera could be used as a samba server ?
[01:53] <Agiofws> with aan sdcard ?
[01:53] <Agiofws> oni t ?
[01:53] <Cisien> yes
[01:53] <forum2006> no
[01:53] <StefanG> argh .. i rebooted without setting a password .. now telnet does not work but ssh also does not work because no pass is set
[01:53] <StefanG> what can i do?
[01:53] <Cisien> reboot, start pressing the reset button repeatedly
[01:53] <Cisien> then you can login with telnet type mount_root && passwd
[01:53] <StefanG> ahh, debug-mode ;-)
[01:54] <forum2006> 'failsafe mode' is the right term
[01:55] <Cisien> hrm, libnl fails to build on the latest trunk
[01:56] <Agiofws> StefanG, serial console
[01:56] <IvanDolvich> Cisien: i flashed it by tftp server, but it still hangs at the "Programming..." message (see http://pastebin.com/m938434)
[01:56] <Agiofws> ?
[01:57] <Cisien> IvanDolvich, hrm, is there something that has to be done with the boot loader to recognize the new checksum?
[01:57] <Cisien> ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output
[01:57] <StefanG> Agiofws: serial is not good .. i have no pin on this device and i don't want to install some now ;-)
[01:57] <Agiofws> StefanG, what is it ?
[01:57] <Agiofws> what dev?
[01:58] <Agiofws> sometimes serial is the only way to go ?
[01:58] <Cisien> but in his case, he doesnt need serial
[01:58] <Agiofws> tftp ?
[01:58] <Cisien> naw, failsafe
[01:59] <Cisien> a botched password is no reason to re flash or solder a serial port
[01:59] <Cisien> here's the full error text i get when building libnl
[01:59] <Cisien> http://cisien.pastebin.com/mb64c4b0
[02:00] Action: forum2006 thinks that failsafe mode and serial console is too difficult for most users
[02:00] <peeps> how do I properly encrypt a password for placing into /etc/passwd
[02:00] <forum2006> in the future i just recommend reflashing the drive via tftp
[02:00] <Cisien> peeps, just use shadow passwords?
[02:01] <peeps> Cisien: there is no shadow file on my openwrt
[02:01] <Agiofws> Cisien, you just made the drive internal ? instead of external ?
[02:01] <Cisien> ahh, i suppose it's not using shadow passwords
[02:01] <Cisien> but the password i have, anyway, is encrypted
[02:01] <Cisien> not sure how good :)
[02:02] <peeps> and anyways /etc/shadow still holds encrypted passwords AFAIK
[02:02] <Cisien> passwd should encrypt them using the default method for linux
[02:02] <peeps> Cisien: what method is that?
[02:04] <Cisien> the default one?
[02:04] <Cisien> i don't know the details of how passwords are stored in linux
[02:04] <Cisien> i just know that i have to type mine whenever i login :)
[02:04] <peeps> i just want to create one non-root user
[02:04] <Cisien> useradd :)
[02:05] <peeps> there is no useradd on my openwrt
[02:05] <Cisien> you need a busybox build that has the useradd module
[02:05] <peeps> how would I get that?
[02:06] <Cisien> compile your own firmware and select the package in menuconfig
[02:06] <Agiofws> peeps,
[02:06] <Agiofws> adduser
[02:07] <Cisien> Agiofws, and?
[02:07] <Agiofws> ?
[02:07] <Cisien> either way it's not there by default
[02:07] <Cisien> you have to have a busybox package compiled for it
[02:07] <Agiofws> whats he got ?
[02:07] <Cisien> the stock busybox package
[02:08] <Agiofws> adduse maybe is anther package
[02:08] <Agiofws> ?
[02:08] <Cisien> not a package in my list
[02:08] <Agiofws> why can't he just create the entries in /etc/shadow
[02:08] <forum2006> adduser, deluser, addgroup, delgroup, su and sulogin are busybox features
[02:08] <Cisien> dunno
[02:08] <Agiofws> and /etc/passwd
[02:08] <Cisien> he needs them encrypted
[02:08] <Cisien> which is the whole point of shadow
[02:09] <Agiofws> why does he not encrypt on a local llinux box
[02:09] <Agiofws> and just copy the entry for that local box to his buzybox
[02:10] <Agiofws> all i think he has to touch is shadow passwd and groups
[02:10] <Agiofws> in etc
[02:10] <peeps> there is no shadow
[02:10] <Agiofws> make one ?
[02:10] <peeps> will it use it if I do?
[02:10] <Agiofws> peeps,
[02:11] <peeps> then I need to move the root password from /etc/passwd into it too, right?
[02:11] <Cisien> no, it wont use it
[02:11] <peeps> ok
[02:11] <forum2006> you have to compile a custom busybox
[02:11] <Cisien> i just created a blank /etc/shadow and then changed my root password
[02:12] <Agiofws> it might use it
[02:12] <Cisien> yes, forum2006, that's what i've been saying, Agiofws keeps wanting to confuse people with wrong information
[02:12] <peeps> so it's a bit of a security issue i guess
[02:12] <forum2006> Cisien: yeah. he should stop that
[02:12] <Cisien> peeps, you can create the user with no password (*) and then use passwd to chage it
[02:12] <Cisien> will encrypt it in the /etc/passwd file
[02:13] <peeps> ah, ok i'll try that
[02:13] <peeps> my ultimate goal is that I want to have weechat running on openwrt and I can ssh into it. is this a big security risk?
[02:14] <Cisien> not when runing as an unprivledged user
[02:14] <peeps> ok, but the whole thing with having no shadow file?
[02:14] <forum2006> openwrt was never desinged to be a multi-user system.
[02:14] <forum2006> IT'S JUST A DAMN FUCKING ROUTER
[02:14] <Cisien> peeps, i wouldnt worry about it too much, the password in /etc/passwd is encrypted
[02:14] <peeps> forum2006 then why did someone port weechat to it :P
[02:15] <Cisien> forum2006, chill
[02:15] <Cisien> it may be "JUST A DAMN FUCKING ROUTER" but some people want to use it for more than "JUST A DAMN FUCKING ROUTER"
[02:15] <forum2006> peeps: no idea why. there are lots of packages ported which souldn't be installed on a router
[02:15] <peeps> we are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams
[02:16] <Cisien> OpenWRT is an operating system for embedded devices, more than it is a router operating system
[02:16] <Agiofws> weechat ?
[02:16] <peeps> it's an irc client
[02:16] <Cisien> Agiofws, learn to use google, dammit!
[02:16] <Agiofws> i do
[02:16] <Agiofws> all the time
[02:17] <Cisien> then you would know what weechat was before asking it here
[02:17] <Agiofws> just for conversations sake
[02:17] <Agiofws> Cisien, then we would'nt use IRC
[02:17] <Cisien> please?
[02:17] <Agiofws> is it an irc client ?
[02:18] <Cisien> google tells me yes

[02:19] <Agiofws> never heard of it ... all i knew was bitchX and irssi
[02:20] <Agiofws> for console clients
[02:20] <peeps> Agiofws: it's in kamikaze ipkg
[02:21] <Agiofws> great
[02:21] <Agiofws> peeps, what device is this ?
[02:22] <peeps> Agiofws: i have a wrtsl54gs
[02:22] <Agiofws> plenty of ram to flash ?
[02:23] <peeps> 32mb ram, 8mb flash
[02:24] <peeps> one of the reasons I chose it
[02:25] <Agiofws> plenty i guess
[02:25] <Agiofws> does it have usb ports to connect any drives ?
[02:25] <Agiofws> i don;t think so right
[02:26] <forum2006> .
[02:26] <StefanG> can i set nvram variables in failsave?
[02:27] <StefanG> it looks as if nothing would be changed :(
[02:27] <peeps> Agiofws: yes it has a usb port. i bought an 8GB flash drive the other day :D haven't tried using it yet though
[02:28] <Agiofws> you're kidding ...
[02:28] <peeps> it only cost about $60
[02:28] <Agiofws> wow
[02:29] <peeps> they are getting cheap these days
[02:29] <Agiofws> it has usb to connect a printer or a drive to it ?
[02:29] <Agiofws> omg it does
[02:29] <Agiofws> http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/wrtsl54gs-2-lg.jpg
[02:30] <Agiofws> so you can connect a usb drive to it ?
[02:30] <Agiofws> man you can make a cheap media home server with this thing
[02:30] <peeps> like I said, I haven't tried it yet, but I would assume so
[02:31] <Agiofws> peeps, you flashed it ?
[02:33] <peeps> Agiofws: yes, it is already running openwrt
[02:35] <Agiofws> does it come with linux on it ?
[02:40] Action: Cisien is full
[02:40] <Cisien> peeps, you have the wrtsl54gs?
[02:41] <Cisien> http://www.exoronet.net/wrtsl54gs/
[02:41] <Cisien> look at the last 3 pics
[02:41] <Cisien> Agiofws, you may be interested in that too
[02:41] <Agiofws> ok
[02:41] <Agiofws> looking
[02:42] <Cisien> that one i add the usb stick to a usb header thats not populated
[02:42] <Cisien> keeping the usb port available for external devices
[02:42] <Cisien> don't know what kind of media server you'd get with a usb stick though, you'd want to hook up a usb hard drive
[02:43] <peeps> Cisien: cool, that's yours?
[02:43] <Cisien> yeah
[02:44] <Agiofws> exactly but thats awsome*
[02:44] <Agiofws> Cisien,
[02:44] <peeps> Cisien, yeah, i'm gonna have to try that one of these days
[02:45] <Agiofws> Cisien, i have a speedtouch 585i have you head anything about getting kamikazi and if yes .. getting a usb port on it ?
[02:45] <peeps> i did a mod to it already to add a serial port. actually uses a 3.5mm headphone jack. an example is shown on the openwrt wiki
[02:45] <Agiofws> peeps, you're going to hack it totaly :)
[02:45] <Cisien> if it doesnt have a usb port, it can't have one
[02:45] <Cisien> at least not one that is to spec for any kind of speed
[02:45] <Agiofws> kk
[02:45] <Cisien> as far as teh speedtouch, look in the wiki
[02:46] <Agiofws> but i don;t think that this is a openwrt dev
[02:46] <Agiofws> ok ]
[02:46] <Cisien> peeps, yeah, i used an rj-45 jack and a cisco rollover cable for my serial port
[02:47] <peeps> cool
[02:48] <Agiofws> i used an old cellphone cable ... that had a max232 chip in it it had a serial connector at the one end
[02:48] <Cisien> ok
[02:48] <Agiofws> had to figure out the right cables though
[02:48] <Agiofws> nullboy helped me :)
[02:48] <peeps> Cisien passwd says i have to have root priviledges :/
[02:48] <Cisien> login as root
[02:48] <Cisien> then to passwd username
[02:49] <peeps> ah, duh
[02:49] <Cisien> :P
[02:50] <peeps> peeps, user id 1337 :P
[02:50] <Cisien> heh
[02:50] <Cisien> i should make my ipv6 subnet 1337
[02:50] <Cisien> or beef
[02:50] <peeps> DEADBEEF
[02:51] <Cisien> dead:beef :P
[02:51] <Agiofws> peeps, you got yours for 60$ ?
[02:51] <Agiofws> new ?
[02:51] <Cisien> i paid 99 for mine new
[02:51] <peeps> Agiofws: i meant the 8gb flash
[02:51] <Cisien> about 6/8 months ago
[02:51] <Cisien> ahh
[02:51] <Agiofws> les see how much in greece
[02:52] <peeps> yeah i think i might have paid a lil over 100 for the router.
[02:52] <Cisien> here's one for 52.99
[02:52] <Cisien> found one for 48.99
[02:52] <Cisien> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211181
[02:53] <peeps> cool, newegg is awesome. I just picked mine up at Fry's on kinda an impulse buy
[02:53] <Cisien> yeah
[02:54] <alesan> what at Fry's?
[02:54] <Cisien> the problem with high density flash is that its not as reliable
[02:54] <Agiofws> thats a flash drive
[02:54] <peeps> alesan: 8gb usb flash drive
[02:54] <Agiofws> flash drive don't have good write spped
[02:54] <Agiofws> speed* ?
[02:54] <Cisien> someone mentioned speed?
[02:55] <alesan> do you know what? the boss of my boss this morning went at Fry's and bought this Netgear WGR614v7 for 29 bucks
[02:55] <alesan> and now I have homeworks for the weekend to install openwrt on it :)
[02:55] <Cisien> kinky
[02:55] <Cisien> all i gotta say is... good luck
[02:55] <Cisien> it's listed as WiP in the supported hardware page
[02:56] <Cisien> and 4mb flash/16mb ram, ugly
[02:56] <alesan> yes, like many devices that actually work without problems.
[02:56] <alesan> I guess the "WiP" refers to the old whiterussian times.
[02:56] <Cisien> not always
[02:56] <mob> doesnt openwrt have Mac address spoofing?
[02:56] <alesan> well this router is atheros SoC based from what I understand from the toh
[02:57] <Cisien> mob, you can change the mac on some devices
[02:57] <mob> wrt54gs?
[02:57] <Cisien> sure
[02:58] <alesan> [17:56] <Cisien> and 4mb flash/16mb ram, ugly <- whats wrong with that!?!? it's the most classical setup
[02:59] <alesan> wrt54gl has 4/16
[02:59] <Cisien> just lacking
[02:59] <Cisien> i suppose it's fine if you arent doing anything too different from the stock firmware
[02:59] <mob> how do you do it
[02:59] <Cisien> but i have a hard time keeping what i do under 32mb
[02:59] <Cisien> mob, read
[02:59] <alesan> devices that have more are "exceptoinal"
[02:59] <alesan> exceptional
[02:59] <alesan> what are your needs Cisien
[02:59] <mob> nvram set wan_hwaddr="00:20:00:0B:E8:2E"
[02:59] <mob> ?
[03:00] <alesan> wihch packages/programs are you using
[03:00] <Cisien> whatever i'm curious with at the moment :)
[03:00] <mob> would that set the wireless address ?
[03:00] <Cisien> no
[03:00] <mob> what cmd would set the wireless mac
[03:00] <Cisien> read the damn wiki
[03:00] <alesan> I have my asus wl500gP controlling 4 canon digicams and I have no real need for 32MB, 16 would be enough...
[03:01] <Cisien> using it for cctv or something? heh
[03:03] <alesan> no I have to mount it on a hut at the top of a mountain. right now it is not online, it was until a couple of months ago with only one camera here:
[03:03] <mob> i looked in the wiki
[03:03] <alesan> http://lnx.manoweb.com/wifi/webcam/
[03:03] <alesan> the visit counter is broken :)
[03:03] <mob> please link me to the wiki your looking at with all this information the most i could find is nvram set wan_hwaddr=""
[03:04] <Agiofws> WL-500GP can i get kamikazi on this ?
[03:04] <alesan> Agiofws: why not
[03:05] <Cisien> alesan, whats that right around the 1:16 mark?
[03:06] <alesan> mh
[03:06] <alesan> let me see
[03:07] <Agiofws> maybe in the end i can make a cheap soundless home samba server
[03:07] <alesan> Cisien: you mean the guy there?
[03:11] <Cisien> yeah
[03:12] <alesan> he's a guy :)
[03:12] <Cisien> you :P
[03:12] <peeps> hmm, so I made this user, and at first I just had the home set to /tmp just like root. then I tried to make a new dir for that user, and I edited /etc/passwd to use the new one
[03:12] <peeps> when I log in, it goes there, but if I do cd ~, it goes back to tmp
[03:12] <Cisien> make sure the new dir has perms
[03:13] <Cisien> oh, hrm
[03:13] <Agiofws> Cisien, he is adding a using manually like we said before ?
[03:13] <agaffney> peeps: what does $HOME show?
[03:13] <Agiofws> a user*
[03:13] <peeps> agaffney: /tmp
[03:14] <peeps> how can I fix that?
[03:14] <Cisien> you need to run a script that sets $HOME to the user's dir, when the user loggs in
[03:15] <peeps> what script does ash run when a user logs in?
[03:15] <Cisien> i dunno
[03:16] <agaffney> does the shell use $HOME for ~?
[03:16] <Cisien> try setting the shell to a script
[03:16] <peeps> ah, clever
[03:16] <Cisien> at the end of the script, launch the shell
[03:16] <agaffney> yeah, but that's a workaround and shouldn't be necessary
[03:17] <Cisien> yeah
[03:18] <peeps> agaffney: do you know a more proper way to solve it?
[03:19] <peeps> wait, how can a script run without a shell? this stuff confuses me
[03:19] <Cisien> the first line
[03:19] <Cisien> #/bin/ash
[03:20] <Cisien> #!/bin/ash
[03:20] <Cisien> rather
[03:35] <peeps> hmm, it doesn't seem to like this script. I just tells me permission denied, try again. while entering the password for ssh
[03:35] <peeps> but when I switch the shell back to /bin/ash it lets me log in again
[03:35] <agaffney> chmod a+x
[03:36] <peeps> agaffney: i did chmod +x on it already. what's the "a" do?
[03:37] <agaffney> all users
[03:37] <Wonka> "all"
[03:37] <agaffney> instead of just the owner
[03:37] <Wonka> "+x" is equivalent to "u+x"
[03:37] <peeps> ah ok
[03:37] <agaffney> it's like owned by root but being executed by your other user
[03:37] <Wonka> the owner (user) should be root
[03:37] <agaffney> which with just +x means only root can execute it :)
[03:37] <Wonka> ack
[03:59] <peeps> hmm, still can't get this damn script to run
[03:59] <Agiofws> why not ?
[04:00] <peeps> i don't know, it just tells me permission denied when I try to ssh in
[04:00] <agaffney> add the path of the script to /etc/shells
[04:00] <Agiofws> you can't shh to your linksys ?
[04:01] <Agiofws> ssh*
[04:01] <peeps> agaffney: i just ended up putting it in /bin
[04:01] <agaffney> Agiofws: please read the previous conversation before jumping in
[04:01] <agaffney> peeps: you need to stick the full path to the script in /etc/shells
[04:01] <peeps> oh
[04:02] <Agiofws> try to stick the script in $home/.bash_rc
[04:02] <Agiofws> ?
[04:02] <Agiofws> or
[04:02] <Agiofws> /etc/profiles ?
[04:03] <peeps1> yay, i'm in weechat on my router
[04:04] <nullboy> lol
[04:04] <peeps1> mission acomplished. now I can stay logged in to IRC ...FOREVER
[04:04] <Agiofws> lol
[04:05] <nullboy> hahaha
[04:05] <Agiofws> peeps1, ?what was the problem in the first place
[04:05] <nullboy> Agiofws: hi
[04:05] <nullboy> Agiofws: do you still work with fon's?
[04:06] <peeps1> Agiofws: my goal was to use weechat on my router, so I can stay logged in, and access it remotely from any computer. I had to create a new user so that it would be a little more secure than chatting as root
[04:06] <Agiofws> yeah was on mine a week ago and ordered one more about a week ago
[04:06] <Agiofws> for 10 E
[04:06] <nullboy> i still have a few extras
[04:07] <Agiofws> nullboy, ans serial cable still works :)
[04:07] <Agiofws> peeps1, seems loggical
[04:07] <nullboy> if shipping wouldn't be so bad i'd send you one but the shipping alone would be over 30USD
[04:07] <Agiofws> nah ...
[04:07] <Agiofws> the sent me an email
[04:07] <Agiofws> and charged me 10 Euros for one more
[04:08] <Agiofws> so i sent them the money
[04:08] <Agiofws> i hope its not a + one
[04:08] <nullboy> is the + bad?
[04:08] <Agiofws> peeps1, so you created a use manually
[04:08] <denon> peeps1: why not just run one of those irc proxies that maintain connection, instead of an actual client?
[04:08] <nullboy> peeps1: you using screen?
[04:08] <Agiofws> they say they have issues
[04:08] <denon> it keeps your conection even when you disconnect
[04:09] <Agiofws> yes he is
[04:09] <Agiofws> peeps1, so you created a user manually ?
[04:09] <peeps1> nullboy, not using screen at the moment, but that's the plan.
[04:09] <Agiofws> what did you do exactly ?
[04:09] <nullboy> i created my own image that has the multi user tools
[04:10] <denon> an irc proxy would be thinner than screen and a client
[04:10] <nullboy> and screen and nohup
[04:10] <Agiofws> nohup ?
[04:10] <peeps1> Agiofws: yes, i did. i edited /etc/passwd and /etc/group . copied the encrypted password from root, then used passwd util to reset the new user's password
[04:11] <peeps1> screen is in ipkg
[04:11] <nullboy> nohup give programs "hang up immunity"
[04:11] <nullboy> it's good for ssh tunnels
[04:11] <Agiofws> peeps1, good hack
[04:12] <Agiofws> its what i kinda suggested i would actually just copy over an encrypted pass for a user on an local linux system
[04:12] <nullboy> you can recompile busybox with the build root to have groupadd, useradd, and all that
[04:12] <nullboy> that's what i do
[04:12] <Cisien> Agiofws, that doesn't work
[04:12] <Agiofws> Cisien, why not ?
[04:12] <Cisien> even when you copy an /etc/passwd from the same router, it wont read it properly
[04:12] <nullboy> the hash won't work
[04:13] <Agiofws> i have done it and it worked...
[04:13] <Cisien> then your system is insecure
[04:13] <nullboy> i didn't even think openwrt used shadow by default though
[04:13] <Cisien> it doesnt
[04:13] <Agiofws> its not my system
[04:14] <Agiofws> but i did it
[04:14] <Agiofws> wait maybe i'm not exlaing this weel
[04:14] <Agiofws> well
[04:14] <Agiofws> say you don't know roots password on a system
[04:14] <Cisien> Agiofws, i don't know what it is with you, but for some reason, you ALWAYS want to take the shortcut for everything
[04:15] <nullboy> if you don't know root's password you use single user mode or a live CD to gain access
[04:15] <Agiofws> yeah i used a live cd ... to change roots passwd
[04:16] <Agiofws> what i did
[04:17] <Agiofws> was set roots(live CD) passwd to a known pass and then copied /etc/shadow roots entry to the real OS /etc/shadow .. then booted up with the nornal distro an entered roots password and it worked
[04:18] <nullboy> i guess it could work
[04:18] <Cisien> mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/os && chroot /mnt/os /bin/bash && passwd
[04:18] <nullboy> i've never actually tried that
[04:18] <nullboy> Cisien: that's what i was thinking
[04:18] <Agiofws> nullboy, a question
[04:18] <Cisien> yeah
[04:18] <Cisien> the "proper" way to do it, lol
[04:19] <Agiofws> if we have the same pass for root ? won't our /etc/shadow files for roots entry be the same ?
[04:19] <Cisien> no - salted hash
[04:19] <nullboy> no
[04:19] <nullboy> Cisien beat me
[04:19] <nullboy> it's not just md5, it is salted
[04:20] <peepsalot> how is the salt set?
[04:20] <Cisien> random
[04:20] <nullboy> with some random entropy
[04:20] <Agiofws> sprinkeled
[04:20] <nullboy> that's what the "saving seed" is all about
[04:21] <Agiofws> so swapping our shadow files aound won't work ?
[04:21] <nullboy> it *could* work but shouldn't
[04:21] <peepsalot> there is only one salt for the whole system, right?
[04:22] <nullboy> man crypt to see
[04:22] <peepsalot> i've never seen anything say "saving seed"
[04:22] <peepsalot> no manual for crypt
[04:22] <nullboy> not on openwrt
[04:22] <nullboy> on a real system
[04:22] <Agiofws> there is a song called " sowing the seeds of love"
[04:22] <peepsalot> not on Ubuntu either
[04:22] <Agiofws> or something like that
[04:23] <peepsalot> guess it's not a real system :`(
[04:23] <nullboy> peepsalot: you have got to be kidding
[04:23] <nullboy> no crypt manpage...what a joke
[04:23] <nullboy> here
[04:23] <nullboy> http://linux.die.net/man/4/random
[04:23] <peepsalot> well, crypt is not on here by default i guess
[04:23] <nullboy> that talks about it
[04:24] <nullboy> man crypt will talk about the salt
[04:25] <Agiofws> can we test it amoung ourselfs ?
[04:25] <Cisien> what's there to test? Nothing's broken
[04:25] <Agiofws> lets make a passwd for user say joe
[04:25] <Agiofws> and give a pass like 12345
[04:25] <Cisien> if you want to do it, do it between your routers
[04:25] <Cisien> and don't talk about it here
[04:25] <Agiofws> and lets check /etc/shadow
[04:26] <peepsalot> cool, thanks for all the help folks. gotta head out
[04:26] <nullboy> joe:$1$337/s6pM$ZqASjqOrjtPKK.5uVVEGA0:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:27] <Agiofws> ok wait
[04:27] <nullboy> joe password: 12345
[04:27] <nullboy> ok
[04:27] <Cisien> woah, it almost said 1337
[04:27] <nullboy> haha yeah
[04:28] <nullboy> and here's proof
[04:28] <Agiofws> lapi:/home/agiofws# cat /etc/passwd | grep joe
[04:28] <Agiofws> joe:x:1004:1004:,,,:/home/joe:/bin/bash
[04:28] <nullboy> deleted user, recreated, then set same pass
[04:28] <nullboy> that's passwd
[04:28] <nullboy> dude come on
[04:28] <nullboy> you don't even know how it works
[04:28] <nullboy> look
[04:28] <nullboy> joe:$1$Gs7/PApM$hJPViSUwZFeo0rRv4X0EB1:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:29] <Cisien> he doesn't even know how to set a password
[04:29] <Agiofws> i know
[04:29] <nullboy> same password...
[04:29] <Agiofws> you guys impatient
[04:29] <nullboy> no dude look
[04:29] <Agiofws> lapi:/home/agiofws# cat /etc/shadow | grep joe
[04:29] <Agiofws> joe:$1$rjUGQyN2$rzp/uy3flpzbpSKh8Qio./:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:29] <nullboy> that is the SAME password
[04:29] <Cisien> your router has shadow passwords?
[04:29] <nullboy> i set the user's password to the same password again and the has is always different..this is how it works
[04:30] <nullboy> Cisien: that's on my workstation
[04:30] <Cisien> ahh, ok
[04:30] <Agiofws> $1$337/s6pM$ZqASjqOrjtPKK.5uVVEGA0 <-- your for 12345
[04:30] <nullboy> Agiofws: and joe:$1$Gs7/PApM$hJPViSUwZFeo0rRv4X0EB1:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:30] <nullboy> same password...
[04:30] <Agiofws> $1$rjUGQyN2$rzp/uy3flpzbpSKh8Qio./ <mine for 12345
[04:30] <nullboy> different times
[04:30] <nullboy> see
[04:31] <Agiofws> so hash is diff ?
[04:31] <nullboy> totally
[04:31] <nullboy> each time too
[04:31] <Agiofws> wait i'm going to copy it
[04:31] <nullboy> it does not matter if the password is the same or not
[04:31] <Agiofws> to shadow
[04:31] <Agiofws> see if it works
[04:33] <Agiofws> ok i replaced it with yours
[04:34] <Agiofws> lets see if i get a login
[04:35] <Agiofws> nullboy, i logged in with your hash
[04:35] <Agiofws> strange ?
[04:35] <Agiofws> lapi:/etc# cat /etc/shadow | grep joe

[04:36] <Agiofws> dif salt but it logged in
[04:36] <nullboy> i didn't know it would work
[04:36] <Agiofws> try it
[04:36] <Agiofws> use my hash
[04:36] <Agiofws> and see
[04:37] <Agiofws> can you confirm it ?
[04:37] <Agiofws> $1$rjUGQyN2$rzp/uy3flpzbpSKh8Qio./ <mine for 12345
[04:39] <nullboy> works
[04:39] <Agiofws> maybe it works only for SE linux or something ?
[04:46] <nullboy> i know why
[04:46] <nullboy> The glibc2 version of this function has the following additional features. If salt is a character string starting with the three characters "$1$" followed by at most eight characters, and optionally terminated by "$", then instead of using the DES machine, the glibc crypt function uses an MD5-based algorithm
[04:54] <Cisien> nullboy, does the latest trunk build for you?
[04:54] <Cisien> i'm having problems building libnl (or something like that)
[04:54] <nullboy> i just make cleaned but i can start it right now
[04:55] <nullboy> 9762?
[04:55] <Cisien> yes
[04:55] <nullboy> starting
[05:18] <nullboy> anyone ever actually use 11A ?
[05:18] <nullboy> is there a difference in wall penetration between G and A ?
[05:27] <thepeople> nullboy: I use 11A, it runs at 5.8ghz
[05:27] <thepeople> that is the difference
[05:27] <thepeople> 11g goes through walls better
[05:27] <nullboy> but there is not penetration differences between 2.4 and 5.8?
[05:28] <nullboy> ah
[05:30] <J4k3> ofdm handles multpath better
[05:30] <J4k3> 11b handles distortion and evm better
[05:33] <J4k3> lower the frequency the better the prnrtration in soli objects
[05:33] <J4k3> higher the frequency? the better it bounces and breaks thru small holes
[05:35] <J4k3> really low frequencies bend pretty good, but spread spectrum doesn't like high bitrates + diffracted signal
[05:35] <J4k3> think of a prism
[05:36] <J4k3> same thing occurs
[05:36] <nullboy> the more violet the better is bends in the prism
[08:43] <nullboy> is there a way to decrease the beacon interval for atheros cards under OpenWrt?
[09:14] <russell_> nullboy: probably the same way you do it normally
[09:15] <nullboy> how is that?
[09:15] <russell_> use google?
[09:16] <russell_> http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/BeaconInterval
[09:16] <nullboy> so there is not default option for that to be used in /etc/config/wireless?
[09:16] <russell_> nfi
[09:17] <nullboy> nfi?
[09:17] <russell_> no freaking idea
[09:18] <nullboy> see what i was getting at in the first place now?
[09:18] <russell_> you could try grepping through the config infrastructure to find it. or, again, use google.
[09:18] <nullboy> that is why i asked about openwrt specifically though.
[09:19] <nullboy> so "probably the same way you do it normally" would have been a wonderful answer if this was a "normal" context but since this is in the context of openwrt i don't think that was really necessary
[09:20] <nullboy> but thanks
[10:17] <DDave> Hello, what is the difference between the wrt54gl and the wrt54gs?
[10:17] <Cisien> the 's' in gs meeds speedboost
[10:17] <Cisien> means
[10:17] <Cisien> wow
[10:17] <Cisien> i'm drunk
[10:17] <DDave> Ok, but the pins are located at the same place?
[10:17] <Cisien> don't know what the l means tho
[10:17] <DDave> lol, nice:P
[10:17] <DDave> l is linux
[10:17] <Cisien> the pins?
[10:18] <DDave> Yes, I found some tutorials to add a Serial Port to a wrt54gs, can I apply it to the wrt54gl ?
[10:18] <Cisien> most likely
[10:18] <Cisien> you can test it with a multimeter
[10:18] <Cisien> the rx pin wont have a voltage reading, the tx pin should fluctuate durring boot
[10:19] <DDave> Oh cool ^^
[10:19] <DDave> Thanks
[10:20] <DDave> Now I only need to check which versions I shouldn't buy
[10:21] <Cisien> buy the wrtls54gs
[10:21] <Cisien> or better yet, the wl-500gP
[10:21] <DDave> :/ pressed the wrong button
[10:21] <Cisien> lol
[10:22] <DDave> They're expensive ^^
[10:22] <Cisien> true, but they are good routers
[10:22] <DDave> oh, it's cheaper :/
[10:22] <Cisien> ..or should i say computers
[10:22] <Cisien> good :)
[10:22] <DDave> cheaper than wrt54gl
[10:22] <Cisien> which one
[10:22] <DDave> gl is at 64 and gs is 57
[10:22] <Cisien> ahh
[10:23] <Cisien> the sl54gs?
[10:23] <DDave> the wrt54gs
[10:23] <DDave> oh you were talking about the sl
[10:23] <Cisien> wrtsl54gs
[10:23] <Cisien> it has usb ports
[10:25] <DDave> Ok Thanks ;)
[11:37] <forum2006> .
[11:39] <forum2006> not many users left in here. i think it's time for a new kamikaze release
[11:40] <DDave> :/ only 244 people
[11:40] <DDave> lol
[11:40] <forum2006> one or two month back there are around 300 in this channel
[11:41] <DDave> not bad ^^
[12:45] <azaghal> If I wanted to rebuild a single package for Kamikaze 7.09, I should do a 'svn checkout https://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/trunk kamikaze', then co the package files from openwrt as well, and then issue all necessary commands, right? Or should I co a specific revision for package to be compatible with 7.09?
[13:21] <ido_> i have a question regarding iptables on WR, lets say i don't touch firewall.user, how will the firewall act?
[13:26] <ido_> does iptables rejects every connection coming from WAN that i didn't established?
[13:27] <azaghal> Yup.
[13:27] <ido_> azaghal, by default?
[13:27] <azaghal> Default firewall is pretty tight.
[13:27] <azaghal> Yes.
[13:28] <ido_> nice, so i don't need to change anything unless i want to open ports?
[13:28] <azaghal> No
[13:28] <azaghal> But you will need to setup some things in order to enable NAT etc.
[13:28] <ido_> like what?
[13:29] <azaghal> Well, you'll need to enable NAT, and masquearding.
[13:29] <ido_> it's not enabled by default?
[13:29] <azaghal> There's a wiki page somewhere, depending on what you use to connect to internet.
[13:29] <ido_> the wiki sucks :P
[13:29] <azaghal> I'm pretty sure it's not enabled by default via WAN port.
[13:30] <azaghal> I think it'll only work for LANs by default.
[13:30] <playya> do i have to open the ports on both sides to use voip?
[13:30] <azaghal> Both sides?
[13:30] <mzb_d800> sounds strange for a router distro not to have those enabled ;)
[13:31] <playya> iptables -A forwarding_wan --dport 5060 --to 192.168.1.156
[13:31] <playya> iptables -t nat -A prerouting_wan -p tcp --dport 8000 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.156
[13:31] <playya> or hust the first line?
[13:31] <playya> s/hust/just/
[14:01] <DDave> Is there a possibility to change a wrt54gl 's IP ? I'm using a router which has 192.168.1.1, will openwrt detect it and use another ip? or will there be problems ?
[14:02] <playya_> dhcp?
[14:02] <DDave> the router gives the dhcp yes
[14:03] <playya_> but you want to have a different net?
[14:04] <DDave> well, I just want the router to give the wrt internet
[14:04] <DDave> so the wrt only has to share it
[14:08] <xserver> DDave : Set the router IP as the gateway on wrt ...and enable DHCP on wrt
[14:09] <xserver> anyone connecting with wrt will get internet through wrt
[14:09] <DDave> thanks
[14:09] <xserver> np
[14:09] <xserver> DDave : in some case you will also have to put DNS servers in wrt ...
[14:10] <xserver> DDave : Not mandatory but i follow it ..
[14:10] <DDave> Ok Thanks for your help
[14:13] <azaghal> ido_: I used http://wiki.openwrt.org/PPTPClientHowto#head-2a351801ddfe4a325886da25a63b9a9542f2db69 for start when setting-up the router, but later on switched to using shorewall instead.
[14:13] <Otacon22> anyone can help me to flash a fonera?
[14:13] <Otacon22> i think i have made something wrong
[14:15] <xserver> Otacon22 : any symptoms ?
[14:15] <azaghal> Another (un)lucky Fonera user :)
[14:15] <ido_> azaghal, you installed shorewall using the openwrt wiki?
[14:15] <azaghal> ido_: I think it was half that, half official docs :)
[14:15] <ido_> i am now reading the iptables tutorial
[14:16] <azaghal> ido_: Do you need to do anything overly advanced with firewall?
[14:16] <ido_> no
[14:16] <xserver> anyone got an idea how to find hardware for firewall ?
[14:16] <ido_> but i want to understand how it works
[14:16] <azaghal> ido_: Use shorewall then, trust me :)
[14:16] <azaghal> Ah, ok.
[14:16] <xserver> something like 10 Ports
[14:16] <ido_> azaghal, i am afraid shorewall is hard to install
[14:16] <xserver> Based on Xscale of something like that powerful
[14:17] <ido_> azaghal, what router do you own?
[14:17] <azaghal> WL-500gP
[14:17] <witchdoc> xserver: something with with vlan support maybe
[14:17] <xserver> witchdoc : yeah..
[14:17] <Otacon22> xserver, i have already a fonera, but i buyed it already flashed... this one is new, i followed instructions to enable ssh, and i have made that command with mtd to set the .lzma, but i putted a wrong file: the openwrt kamikaze 7.09 lzma, i rebooted ( i wanted only to have access to redboot, i know how to flash from redboot), but now i can't access to redboot and the fonera's operating system don't load yet
[14:17] <Otacon22> i want to try by serial so
[14:18] <azaghal> Hm... Any unusual requirements for bulding the toolchain (ie. specific version of gcc on machine etc)?
[14:18] <xserver> Otacon22 : does the fonera got a Jtag ?
[14:18] <Otacon22> i don't have a serial adapter, so i thought that i could use the another fonera and connect it to the new one
[14:18] <witchdoc> xserver: i managed an fw with 63 members, works fine with vlan
[14:18] <Otacon22> yes xserver
[14:18] <xserver> witchdoc :hardware ??
[14:18] <xserver> i do not intend to use a PC
[14:18] <azaghal> ido_: I just had done ipkg install shorewall (had to install some additional iptables packages), and changed 4-5 shorewall configuration files.
[14:19] <xserver> Jtag is better than Serial ...
[14:19] <Otacon22> xserver, do you can drive me to use it?
[14:19] <ido_> azaghal, how did you know whic additional packges you had to install?
[14:20] <azaghal> Well, shorewall complained about missing applications when I started it.
[14:20] <azaghal> I could tell you what I have here.
[14:20] <witchdoc> xserver: normal pc with 2 x intel e1000 dual-port server cards
[14:20] <xserver> Otacon22 : never got my hands on a fonera .. but lemme dig something out
[14:20] <ido_> azaghal, i'll be more than happy if you could tell me what you had to install
[14:21] <xserver> Otacon22 : http://www.easy2design.de/bla/?page_id=98
[14:21] <Otacon22> xserver, i need some adapter to use the jtag by pc?
[14:21] <azaghal> ido_: Second
[14:21] <ido_> azaghal, no problem
[14:22] <xserver> Otacon22 : I think you can debrick with serial also
[14:22] <xserver> try the link .. got information about debricking
[14:23] <Otacon22> xserver, i tried: i connected the serial of my working fonera to the new(inverting TX with RX) and i started a serial connection but i don't recive anything...
[14:23] <Otacon22> i tried with python library
[14:23] <mzb> ido_: for a simple setup shorewall is total overkill ... and for a more complex setup a router will take a long time to recalculate all the rules
[14:23] <witchdoc> Otacon22: http://wiki.freifunk-hannover.de/Fonera_with_OLSR_%28English%29
[14:23] <Otacon22> is there on openwrt a preinstalled program to use a serial terminal?
[14:24] <witchdoc> Otacon22: huh?
[14:24] <witchdoc> Otacon22: win oder unix user?
[14:24] <witchdoc> win -> hyperterminal
[14:24] <Otacon22> no witchdoc listen:
[14:24] <xserver> Otacon22 : Serial interacts with the BIOS
[14:25] <Otacon22> i don't have any serial converter
[14:25] <witchdoc> *nix -> minicom
[14:25] <Otacon22> but i have another fonera working
[14:25] <xserver> no need of serial convertor
[14:25] <Otacon22> so i thought to connect them toghetar
[14:25] <xserver> Its just a DB9 - DB9 with TXD and RXD inverted
[14:25] <witchdoc> Otacon22: ah, "fon-talking ..."
[14:25] <witchdoc> ;)
[14:25] <xserver> Pins 2-3 inverted
[14:25] <Otacon22> yes
[14:25] <Otacon22> ovviusly
[14:25] <Otacon22> but with program i have to use from the working fonera
[14:25] <witchdoc> Otacon22: but the "listen fon" use the port
[14:25] <xserver> if serial don't work then you need jtag
[14:26] <Otacon22> to communicate by serial?
[14:26] <Otacon22> oh oh oh
[14:26] <Otacon22> "Fonera doesn't boot when the USB-to-serial cable is connected directly, specifically the TX pin, so first the cable (TX pin) has to be removed, then connect the Fonera to the power, and after 5-8 seconds attach the serial cable."
[14:26] <xserver> the serial listen mode is enabled in terminal
[14:27] <Otacon22> can be for this reason because haven't worked
[14:27] <Otacon22> i will retry
[14:27] <xserver> are you using USB - Serial cable ?
[14:27] <Otacon22> no
[14:27] <Otacon22> but it is the same
[14:27] <witchdoc> Otacon22: some busy cables have the problem
[14:27] <Otacon22> i have to disconnect TX pin
[14:27] <Otacon22> and then reconnect
[14:27] <witchdoc> try and error
[14:28] <Otacon22> humm.... i retry now, then i notice you if it will work
[14:29] <xserver> A Question : which is the cheapest that openwrt supports ?
[14:29] <xserver> Fon ... ??
[14:30] <witchdoc> you wish one to xmas?
[14:30] <xserver> Another Question : The most expensive wrt supports ?
[14:30] <azaghal> Oh please don't take Fonera :)
[14:30] <xserver> i will stock to Xscale
[14:30] <xserver> stick
[14:30] <azaghal> xserver: Probably some evil dual-quad-whatever-core machine ;)
[14:30] <azaghal> Since it support x86
[14:30] <azaghal> *supports
[14:30] <xserver> yeah ...
[14:31] <witchdoc> xserver: maybe an evil overprice maschine from my company ;-)
[14:31] <azaghal> I've had a nice experience with WL-500gP so far.
[14:31] <xserver> with shitload of interfaces ... E1, etc etc
[14:31] <Otacon22> fonera costs 10 ¬ for cristmas with also spedition
[14:31] <xserver> Well... i like opensource and openhardware ... WL-500gP isn't that openhardware :)
[14:32] <Otacon22> 8 gpio ports, serial port, 16 mb ram, 8 mb disk, ethernet, wireless, 200 mhtz
[14:32] <azaghal> I'm guessing you're talking about the wifi on WL?
[14:32] <xserver> i always interchange mPCI's on my Quad Xscale
[14:32] <xserver> yeah..
[14:32] <azaghal> I hate proprietary drivers as well.
[14:32] <witchdoc> xserver: i like pcengines.ch machines
[14:32] <xserver> madwifi isn't that proprietory
[14:32] <xserver> yeah ... but more powerful than WRAP and ALIX
[14:33] <witchdoc> some taiwain stuff - via eden or soone
[14:33] <witchdoc> but quality is better on WRAP, ALIX an soekris
[14:33] <xserver> right now i am looking for such stuff with 8-10 Ethernets... like the MT one ...
[14:34] <xserver> WRAP/ALIX is originated from taiwan
[14:34] <witchdoc> yeap, but the design not from taiwan
[14:34] <xserver> but build quality is infact very good in WRAP, ALIX ...
[14:34] <xserver> Its from Pascal Dornier , PC Engines
[14:34] <witchdoc> som "lex" systems i mean
[14:35] <witchdoc> xserver: why 10 ethernets?
[14:36] <witchdoc> xserver: an good switch with vlan doesnt work with an "normal" vlan-proof fw ?
[14:36] <xserver> witchdoc : to build a monster router
[14:36] <witchdoc> you can also build "monster" router with vlan
[14:36] <witchdoc> cheaper an more scaling
[14:37] <xserver> yeah.. its scaling.. but limited to Ethenet speed
[14:37] <xserver> and i am limited with 100Mbps ...
[14:37] <witchdoc> bought gigabit swith
[14:37] <xserver> not going to implement gigabit
[14:38] <witchdoc> monster-router, routing to ..? the internet with uplink ...?
[14:38] <xserver> self routing .. no uplink ..
[14:38] <witchdoc> ah, ok. campus and soone
[14:39] <witchdoc> wan use
[14:39] <xserver> wan will be 10mbps or so ...
[14:39] <xserver> but i need to look at the intertraffic
[14:39] <witchdoc> shame on you ;)
[14:39] <xserver> :-D
[14:40] <witchdoc> want to filter bad packets or p2p ?
[14:40] <xserver> yeah...
[14:40] <xserver> most of them are boradcast floods and p2p ...
[14:40] <witchdoc> you can also took an good server with may pci-wathever and use quad-ethernet-cards
[14:41] <witchdoc> or cheaper dual-port cards
[14:41] <xserver> i want to do it on embedded ... :) so as to be different from others
[14:41] <xserver> both solves the problem ... but the later will be a bit robust and mobile
[14:42] <xserver> i had seen such but i forgot the name ...
[14:42] <xserver> oh yes...
[14:42] <witchdoc> than buy an IDE to CF adapter an put Openwrt on the CF. put it into the "big-monster-server" and disable all hdds ;-)
[14:42] <xserver> the Mikrotik stuff
[14:46] <azaghal> I'm having trouble with building Kamikaze (BCM947xx/953xx 2.4, target profile ASUS WL-500g Premium) - http://pastebin.com/d54d329ff . Any thoughts? (this is just an excerpt from errors, I couldn't fit the whole thing in pastebin)
[14:47] <azaghal> Ah, right, trunk rev. 9762
[14:48] <azaghal> *9763
[14:48] <nbd> azaghal: what distro are you using?
[14:48] <azaghal> Gentoo.
[14:48] <azaghal> Could it be a problem with gcc?
[14:49] <nbd> dunno. but whenever people show me the really weird build errors, gentoo shows up on the list very often
[14:49] <azaghal> Heheh
[14:49] <azaghal> Any reason I should not use gcc-4.1.2 for building this thing?
[14:49] <nbd> yes
[14:49] <nbd> because linux 2.4 does not build with gcc 4.1.2
[14:49] <nbd> :P
[14:49] <azaghal> Ah
[14:49] <azaghal> I mean, for toolchain?
[14:50] <nbd> ?
[14:50] <azaghal> The build here fails when trying to build toolchain for mipsel.
[14:51] <azaghal> (I might be a bit uninformed about the whole cross-compilation thing)
[14:51] <nbd> because linux 2.4 does not build with gcc 4+, the build system needs to generate a 3.4.6 gcc that targets mipsel
[14:52] <azaghal> Ok, I can understand that, but in my case it's not failing while building kernel.
[14:52] <nbd> azaghal: but if you manage to build with gcc 4.1.2, then it *will* fail while building the kernel
[14:52] <azaghal> Ah, ok.
[14:53] <nbd> maybe it has something to do with the version of bison or flex that you have installed
[14:53] <azaghal> I have bison-2.3 and flex-2.5.33 here.
[14:54] <nbd> hm
[14:54] <nbd> same here
[14:54] <witchdoc> xserver: monster-router should be movable?
[14:54] <Otacon22> xserver, it works! but i have a problem
[14:54] <azaghal> I have gcc-3.4.6 slotted on system as well, maybe I should try switching to it for this one?
[14:54] <Otacon22> for tests on serial i'm using a program made by me
[14:54] <Otacon22> and i recive bad all letters by serial
[14:55] <Otacon22> i need to run on the working fonera a console program to control serial
[14:55] <azaghal> Could the problem lie withing the fact that I use a 64-bit distro?
[14:57] <witchdoc> Otacon22: so run minicom
[14:57] <witchdoc> or something else
[14:57] <Otacon22> to set preferencies?(baudrate 9600)
[14:58] <Otacon22> ghghg
[14:58] <Otacon22> i don't have minicom
[14:59] <witchdoc> ipkg install minicom ?
[15:00] <witchdoc> minicom -s
[15:06] <xserve1> umm... still no official support for adm5120 based compex wp54
[15:21] <azaghal> nbd: I think I found the problem with the build...
[15:25] <Otacon22> witchdoc, i am setting some thing, but i need to send control+c command when bootloader try to boot the kernel to stop it
[15:25] <Otacon22> but if i do control+c minicom is terminated
[15:28] <playya> http://nopaste.unixfreunde.de/326
[15:28] <playya> this is diaplaxed when i try to set some forwarding on my wrt
[15:32] <playya> brb
[16:21] <Otacon22> witchdoc, hey
[16:21] <Otacon22> hey
[16:21] <Otacon22> i'm not able to send control+c command to terminate boot
[16:22] <Otacon22> i see all booting by serial
[16:22] <Otacon22> but i can't stop it
[16:27] <Otacon22> uff
[16:33] <robl^> is Kamikaze or White Russian the current version? I am getting consed (new user)
[16:35] <Gottox> robl^: kamikaze is the newer version.
[16:36] <robl^> Gottox: ok! thanks. so I will start there. I have dd-wrt on a wrt54gl and was thinking of moving to openwrt
[16:55] <forum2006> .
[16:56] <robl^> !
[17:10] <forum2006> lol

[19:06] <blueglowj> bing bong?
[19:06] <robl^> avon calling?
[19:06] <blueglowj> hey
[19:07] <blueglowj> im having a bit of trouble with wget on a dg834g. could ya help?
[19:07] <robl^> not familiar with the dg834g. maybe someone else here would be
[19:08] <blueglowj> its just wget really. im trying to pull a file from an ftp server that im running on my machine
[19:08] <blueglowj> but everytime i do it from the dg834g i can see it log in but then it doesnt get the file
[19:09] <blueglowj> it just times out
[19:20] <Cisien_> make sure you are not blocking ports 20 and 21, also, make sure passive mode is enabled and working
[19:21] <Cisien_> or use a http server :P
[19:43] <blueglowj> cisien: yeh there open ive tested it from various angles and ive tried getting it from a http server
[19:45] <Cisien> well, don't know what to tell ya, man.... wget works
[19:46] <blueglowj> yeh just wondered if there was any wierd things
[19:46] <blueglowj> cheers for the input
[19:46] <nullboy> tastes like beer to me ;)
[19:47] <Cisien> what does? Beer?
[19:47] <blueglowj> actually just sorted it
[19:47] <blueglowj> i r teh fool
[19:48] <Cisien> what was it?
[19:48] <nullboy> \o/
[19:48] <blueglowj> fecking windows firewall was enabled
[19:48] <blueglowj> ooopsz
[19:48] <nullboy> wow it actually worked
[19:48] <Cisien> lol
[19:48] <Cisien> nullboy, the windows firewall has this awesome feature - it works when you don't want it too
[19:48] <nullboy> haha
[19:49] <blueglowj> well time to try and not brigk my router
[19:49] <blueglowj> *brick
[20:08] <Cisien> woah, that's cool
[20:08] <Cisien> this has a target for the ps3
[20:51] <forum2006> .
[20:51] <forum2006> deah chan
[20:51] <forum2006> dead
[20:55] <xl0> forum2006: Go play in #disney.
[20:58] <MrParanoia> is there a way to add memory to a wrt54g?
[21:00] <forum2006> MrParanoia: buy a new router
[21:02] <MrParanoia> i'm suppose to have 16 MB of RAM but df -h reports only 10 MB
[21:03] <forum2006> wrt54gl has 4/16. wrt54g and wrt54gs >= v5 is crap (2/8)
[21:03] <forum2006> so, buy a better router
[21:04] <forum2006> wl-500g premium has 32mb ram, wl-700g encore has 64mb ram
[21:07] <MrParanoia> forum2006> mine's a version 2
[21:07] <Cart> how can I compile just one package from kamikaze trunk?
[21:08] <MrParanoia> i'd hate to have to throw away a working router even if it is cheap
[21:09] <Cart> make -C packages/foo isn't correct way, but what is?
[21:15] <Cart> make package/foo-compile..
[21:15] <Cart> thx
[21:42] <Cisien> MrParanoia, sometimes the sdram nvram settings are incorrect for the amount of ram installed
[21:42] <Cisien> if youdo a dmesg, somewhere near the top tells you how much memory is really detected by the kernel
[21:45] <Cisien> nbd, you say make -jx works regardless of the error, but it doesn't compile packages in the correct order for depenancies - at least i think. I get failed builds on packages that otherwise compile normally
[21:47] <Cisien> ./home/cisien/OpenWRT/build_dir/linux-brcm47xx/spca5xx-le/spca_core.c:538:5: error: missing binary operator before token "("
[21:48] <Cisien> hrm, line 538 is #if PUD_SHIFT
[21:54] <nbd> Cisien: are you sure dependencies for that package are correct?
[22:05] <Cisien> nbd, not sure, i'm just going off of whats in the svn
[22:05] <Cisien> let me build trunk with -j4 without the extra packages, see if i get errors, i just built it without with no errors
[22:07] <forum2006> trying to get my logitech quickcam pro for notebooks (2007) with linux-uvc on the wl-500g premium working now :)
[22:10] <Cisien> nbd, isn't make -j4 suppose to spawn multiple instances of cc to build different parts of the same app?
[22:16] <debdrup> Hm, is it just me or can't I change the dns servers on openwrt? I can't find where to do it for some reason :(
[22:16] <agaffney> the same place you do it in any linux distro
[22:17] <Cisien> debdrup, uhh
[22:17] <Cisien> crap
[22:17] <debdrup> Cisien: my thoughts exactly..
[22:17] <Cisien> i can't remember the file
[22:17] <Cisien> yeah... /etc/resolv.conf
[22:18] <Cisien> dnsmasq reads it's dns servers from /tmp/resolv.conf
[22:18] <debdrup> Ah!
[22:18] <Cisien> the default /etc/resolv.conf points to the local dnsmasq server
[22:18] <debdrup> I found it on the forum. Damn I should learn to search on things that make sense.
[22:18] <Cisien> which forwards to the dns servers found in /tmp/resolv.conf
[22:19] <debdrup> Or maybe I should just not drink and irc at the same time.
[22:19] <debdrup> Yeah, gotcha.
[22:19] <Cisien> debdrup, drink and irc are what make life fun :P
[22:19] <Cisien> at least i thought so yesterday
[22:19] <Cisien> no wait, that was drinkin and wow'n
[22:19] <debdrup> Yeah, well, what do you think today? :P
[22:20] <Cisien> the same thing i thoguht yesterday?
[22:20] Action: Cisien doesnt get hangovers
[22:20] <Cisien> at least not since the last time i had alcohol poisening
[22:21] <debdrup> I don't get hangovers either, but still. Figuring out things isn't good when drinking.
[22:23] <Cisien> cameras are cheap :P
[22:33] <Cisien> nbd, it's building fine, but still only one task at a time, so i'm not getting any benefit from multiple cores
[22:34] <forum2006> Cisien: basic packages builds fine using parallel builds
[22:34] <forum2006> (without extra /packages)
[22:34] <Cisien> yeah
[22:35] <Cisien> it's the extra packages that have issues, i've noticed
[22:35] <forum2006> Cisien: then check the order of the dependencies
[22:35] <Cisien> i'll pass :P
[22:36] <Cisien> just put up with a single thread
[22:36] <MrParanoia> Cisien> i guess i'll just have to get a new router - a lot of routers on the HCL are no longer sold new or they're WiP or unsupported or untested - of course, the HCL could be out of date
[22:36] <Cisien> yeah, it's not the most up to date
[22:36] <Cisien> just get an asus wl-500gP
[22:37] <Cisien> it's got everything you need - oh, buy an atheros wifi card for it too
[22:37] <forum2006> or a wrt54gl if you just need a router
[22:37] <Cisien> i bought one that can output 600mW (27dbm)
[22:41] <MrParanoia> forum2006> i want more memory than what's in the wrt54gl
[22:42] <Cisien> MrParanoia, the wrtsl54gs has 32mb, and if your dexterous enough with a soldering iron, you can add another 32mb
[22:43] <MrParanoia> Cisien> possibly, since i'm an electronic technician
[22:43] <MrParanoia> ;-)
[22:44] <MrParanoia> but i'd rather not void any warranties
[22:45] <Maligor> Asus WL-500gP is similar to that wrtsl54gs
[22:46] <Maligor> except better
[22:46] <Maligor> since it has a mini-pci instead of that integrated broadcom crap
[22:46] <Cisien> and two usb ports available without soldering
[22:47] <Cisien> however, i put the aditional sotrage inside the router, and the unpopulated usb port was a good deal
[22:47] <Maligor> heh
[22:48] <Maligor> also one alternative is to get a pc
[22:49] <Cisien> PC's are so loud and power hungry though!
[22:49] <Maligor> but you get about... 100x the performance
[22:49] <Cisien> thats true
[22:49] <Cisien> i want to build a low power x86 itx system
[22:50] <Maligor> geode nx would be cool for that if it'd be easier to come by
[22:54] <debdrup> Gah, I hate my isp.
[22:54] <Cisien> i hate your isp too
[22:54] <Cisien> what isp?
[22:55] <Cisien> Maligor, aye
[22:55] <debdrup> So, when directly connected to my isp, I can change the dns server on Windows and it uses dns - is there any way to refresh the dns settings on openwrt without having to reboot (which requires me to relogin to my isp, which I can't do as it can't lookup the login page that I need to use)...
[22:55] <MrParanoia> looking at prices, they're certainly not giving away the wl-500gp
[22:55] <debdrup> Not one you know of.
[22:55] <Cisien> Maligor, a mobile core 2 duo would be a good cpu also
[22:55] <Maligor> MrParanoia: well.. it's not too bad for the features
[22:55] <Cisien> the 45mm versions are very low power :)
[22:55] <debdrup> Penryn makes me slightly moist. :P
[22:56] <MrParanoia> oh well, i could use a new toy for xmas
[22:56] <Maligor> they sell for 80 eur here
[22:56] <MrParanoia> actually, a LOT of new toys
[22:56] <Cisien> MrParanoia, the wl-500gP has 2 usb ports, 32 ram, 8 flash, mini-pci card, 266 processor
[22:56] <debdrup> Anyway, is there a way to change the dns server settings on openwrt without rebooting it?
[22:56] <MrParanoia> 169 USD at amazon.com
[22:56] <Maligor> really?
[22:56] <Cisien> debdrup, edit /etc/resolv.conf
[22:57] <Cisien> 169 for what? The 500gP?
[22:57] <debdrup> Cisien: I did, then what?
[22:57] <Cisien> thats all you need to do
[22:57] <debdrup> But I thought I needed to reboot for it to take affect?
[22:57] <MrParanoia> ASUS WL-500g Premium
[22:57] <Cisien> nope
[22:57] <Maligor> MrParanoia: sounds quite high
[22:57] <Cisien> yes, quite
[22:57] <Cisien> i bought mine for 99
[22:57] <Cisien> and that was a few months ago
[22:57] <Maligor> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320008&Tpk=WL-500g
[22:57] <Cisien> hit up newegg
[22:57] <Maligor> 75 dollars there
[22:58] <Cisien> thts what, about 40 eur?
[22:58] <Maligor> probably
[22:58] <Maligor> 51 eur
[22:58] <Cisien> ok
[22:58] <Maligor> the price differences don't really shock me anymore
[22:58] <Maligor> I got a Canon 580EX2 for 320 eur in japan, costs 510 eur here
[22:59] <MrParanoia> 75 USD at newegg - i guess it pays to spend more time to shop around
[22:59] <Maligor> it's just plain ridiculous
[22:59] <Cisien> plus you get a dvd player!
[22:59] <Maligor> MrParanoia: well, newegg seems to be pretty popular
[22:59] <Maligor> I guess they provide ok prices and services
[23:00] <MrParanoia> ok, i'll order one and keep my 2 linksys routers for backup
[23:00] <Cisien> i've bought from newegg since around 2000
[23:00] <Cisien> and have never had a bad experience with them
[23:00] <Cisien> i've probably spent over 10 grand over the years at that place
[23:00] <MrParanoia> linksys has been stable for me
[23:01] <MrParanoia> i don't like netgear though
[23:01] <Cisien> who mentioned netgear?
[23:01] <november2> i did
[23:01] <MrParanoia> me
[23:01] <Maligor> Cisien: yeah, the webshops seem to be universally nice, they're not big enough (in terms of employees) to become buerocratically overweight, but big enough to have a decent support
[23:01] <Maligor> I mean the larger ones that is
[23:02] <Maligor> until they become amazon.com
[23:02] <Cisien> lol, yeah
[23:03] <MrParanoia> i had though of turning an old pentium 3 pc into a router but it consumes too much power
[23:04] <Maligor> yeah, and noise
[23:04] <Maligor> and heat
[23:04] <Cisien> yeah
[23:04] <november2> yeah, i never was a fan of the "turn an old PC into a router" thing
[23:23] <forum2006> .
[23:36] <blueglowj> hey all im in the process of instaling openwrt onto a DG834G v2. I've compiled an AR7 image from OpenWRT Buildroot and i have patched adam2 successfully. I have followed noodle's instructions for uploading the ar7 image to the device via ADAM2 and all goes as he describes. When the device reboots it still has the stock netgear firmware on. I am unsure of what i am doing wrong. does anyone have any ideas?
[23:39] <forum2006> openwrt for ar7 isn't ready for the masses yet. only use it if you know what you are doing
[23:41] <blueglowj> it compiled successfully the problem im having is putting it on through the ADAM2 bootloader. all the commands execute fine
[23:41] <blueglowj> but on reboot it is still stock netgear
[23:42] <forum2006> well, if you know what you are doing you do not have to ask
[23:42] <blueglowj> can one not learn?
[23:42] <forum2006> -> or simply do not use openwrt on ar7 routers
[23:44] <blueglowj> do you know of any other good similar projects for ar7 based routers then?
[23:46] <forum2006> no
[23:47] <blueglowj> do you have any ideas about my problem?
[23:50] <forum2006> no
[23:52] <Cisien> blueglowj, what guide are you following, what router?
[23:55] <Cisien> woah
[23:56] <blueglowj> i have a dg834g v2
[23:57] <blueglowj> and i followed guide at http://www.earth.li/~noodles/hardware-dg834g.html
[23:58] <forum2006> nbd: possible that the serial console in latest trunk is borked?
[23:59] <forum2006> can't type but displays the text correctly. in 7.09 it's fine
[00:00] --- Sun Dec 16 2007
[02:18] <Cisien> WeeChat is a light text-mode IRC client. It is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. It is extensible by plugins and scripts.
[04:18] <nullboy> i guess it could work
[04:18] <Cisien> mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/os && chroot /mnt/os /bin/bash && passwd
[04:18] <nullboy> i've never actually tried that
[04:18] <nullboy> Cisien: that's what i was thinking
[04:18] <Agiofws> nullboy, a question
[04:18] <Cisien> yeah
[04:18] <Cisien> the "proper" way to do it, lol
[04:19] <Agiofws> if we have the same pass for root ? won't our /etc/shadow files for roots entry be the same ?
[04:19] <Cisien> no - salted hash
[04:19] <nullboy> no
[04:19] <nullboy> Cisien beat me
[04:19] <nullboy> it's not just md5, it is salted
[04:20] <peepsalot> how is the salt set?
[04:20] <Cisien> random
[04:20] <nullboy> with some random entropy
[04:20] <Agiofws> sprinkeled
[04:20] <nullboy> that's what the "saving seed" is all about
[04:21] <Agiofws> so swapping our shadow files aound won't work ?
[04:21] <nullboy> it *could* work but shouldn't
[04:21] <peepsalot> there is only one salt for the whole system, right?
[04:22] <nullboy> man crypt to see
[04:22] <peepsalot> i've never seen anything say "saving seed"
[04:22] <peepsalot> no manual for crypt
[04:22] <nullboy> not on openwrt
[04:22] <nullboy> on a real system
[04:22] <Agiofws> there is a song called " sowing the seeds of love"
[04:22] <peepsalot> not on Ubuntu either
[04:22] <Agiofws> or something like that
[04:23] <peepsalot> guess it's not a real system :`(
[04:23] <nullboy> peepsalot: you have got to be kidding
[04:23] <nullboy> no crypt manpage...what a joke
[04:23] <nullboy> here
[04:23] <nullboy> http://linux.die.net/man/4/random
[04:23] <peepsalot> well, crypt is not on here by default i guess
[04:23] <nullboy> that talks about it
[04:24] <nullboy> man crypt will talk about the salt
[04:25] <Agiofws> can we test it amoung ourselfs ?
[04:25] <Cisien> what's there to test? Nothing's broken
[04:25] <Agiofws> lets make a passwd for user say joe
[04:25] <Agiofws> and give a pass like 12345
[04:25] <Cisien> if you want to do it, do it between your routers
[04:25] <Cisien> and don't talk about it here
[04:25] <Agiofws> and lets check /etc/shadow
[04:26] <peepsalot> cool, thanks for all the help folks. gotta head out
[04:26] <nullboy> joe:$1$337/s6pM$ZqASjqOrjtPKK.5uVVEGA0:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:27] <Agiofws> ok wait
[04:27] <nullboy> joe password: 12345
[04:27] <nullboy> ok
[04:27] <Cisien> woah, it almost said 1337
[04:27] <nullboy> haha yeah
[04:28] <nullboy> and here's proof
[04:28] <Agiofws> lapi:/home/agiofws# cat /etc/passwd | grep joe
[04:28] <Agiofws> joe:x:1004:1004:,,,:/home/joe:/bin/bash
[04:28] <nullboy> deleted user, recreated, then set same pass
[04:28] <nullboy> that's passwd
[04:28] <nullboy> dude come on
[04:28] <nullboy> you don't even know how it works
[04:28] <nullboy> look
[04:28] <nullboy> joe:$1$Gs7/PApM$hJPViSUwZFeo0rRv4X0EB1:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:29] <Cisien> he doesn't even know how to set a password
[04:29] <Agiofws> i know
[04:29] <nullboy> same password...
[04:29] <Agiofws> you guys impatient
[04:29] <nullboy> no dude look
[04:29] <Agiofws> lapi:/home/agiofws# cat /etc/shadow | grep joe
[04:29] <Agiofws> joe:$1$rjUGQyN2$rzp/uy3flpzbpSKh8Qio./:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:29] <nullboy> that is the SAME password
[04:29] <Cisien> your router has shadow passwords?
[04:29] <nullboy> i set the user's password to the same password again and the has is always different..this is how it works
[04:30] <nullboy> Cisien: that's on my workstation
[04:30] <Cisien> ahh, ok
[04:30] <Agiofws> $1$337/s6pM$ZqASjqOrjtPKK.5uVVEGA0 <-- your for 12345
[04:30] <nullboy> Agiofws: and joe:$1$Gs7/PApM$hJPViSUwZFeo0rRv4X0EB1:13862:0:99999:7:::
[04:30] <nullboy> same password...
[04:30] <Agiofws> $1$rjUGQyN2$rzp/uy3flpzbpSKh8Qio./ <mine for 12345
[04:30] <nullboy> different times
[04:30] <nullboy> see
[04:31] <Agiofws> so hash is diff ?
[04:31] <nullboy> totally
[04:31] <nullboy> each time too
[04:31] <Agiofws> wait i'm going to copy it
[04:31] <nullboy> it does not matter if the password is the same or not
[04:31] <Agiofws> to shadow
[04:31] <Agiofws> see if it works
[04:33] <Agiofws> ok i replaced it with yours
[04:34] <Agiofws> lets see if i get a login
[04:35] <Agiofws> nullboy, i logged in with your hash
[04:35] <Agiofws> strange ?
[04:35] <Agiofws> lapi:/etc# cat /etc/shadow | grep joe
[04:35] <Agiofws> joe:$1$337/s6pM$ZqASjqOrjtPKK.5uVVEGA0:13862:0:99999:7:::
[14:24] <witchdoc> win -> hyperterminal
[14:24] <Otacon22> no witchdoc listen:
[14:24] <xserver> Otacon22 : Serial interacts with the BIOS
[14:25] <Otacon22> i don't have any serial converter
[14:25] <witchdoc> *nix -> minicom
[17:24] <Otacon22> OT: how can i create a cicuit to check the battery autonomy of my router?
[17:49] <forum2006> .
[17:58] Last message repeated 1 time(s).
[17:58] <DDave> ,
[17:58] <azaghal> ;
[18:04] <november2> 6
[18:31] <forum2006> .
[19:06] <blueglowj> bing bong?
[19:06] <robl^> avon calling?
[19:06] <blueglowj> hey
[19:07] <blueglowj> im having a bit of trouble with wget on a dg834g. could ya help?
[19:07] <robl^> not familiar with the dg834g. maybe someone else here would be
[19:08] <blueglowj> its just wget really. im trying to pull a file from an ftp server that im running on my machine
[19:08] <blueglowj> but everytime i do it from the dg834g i can see it log in but then it doesnt get the file
[19:09] <blueglowj> it just times out
[19:20] <Cisien_> make sure you are not blocking ports 20 and 21, also, make sure passive mode is enabled and working
[19:21] <Cisien_> or use a http server :P
[19:43] <blueglowj> cisien: yeh there open ive tested it from various angles and ive tried getting it from a http server
[19:45] <Cisien> well, don't know what to tell ya, man.... wget works
[19:46] <blueglowj> yeh just wondered if there was any wierd things
[19:46] <blueglowj> cheers for the input
[19:46] <nullboy> tastes like beer to me ;)
[19:47] <Cisien> what does? Beer?
[19:47] <blueglowj> actually just sorted it
[19:47] <blueglowj> i r teh fool
[19:48] <Cisien> what was it?
[19:48] <nullboy> \o/
[19:48] <blueglowj> fecking windows firewall was enabled
[19:48] <blueglowj> ooopsz
[19:48] <nullboy> wow it actually worked
[19:48] <Cisien> lol
[19:48] <Cisien> nullboy, the windows firewall has this awesome feature - it works when you don't want it too
[19:48] <nullboy> haha
[19:49] <blueglowj> well time to try and not brigk my router
[19:49] <blueglowj> *brick
[20:08] <Cisien> woah, that's cool
[20:08] <Cisien> this has a target for the ps3
[20:51] <forum2006> .
[20:51] <forum2006> deah chan
[20:51] <forum2006> dead
[20:55] <xl0> forum2006: Go play in #disney.
[20:58] <MrParanoia> is there a way to add memory to a wrt54g?
[21:00] <forum2006> MrParanoia: buy a new router
[21:02] <MrParanoia> i'm suppose to have 16 MB of RAM but df -h reports only 10 MB
[21:03] <forum2006> wrt54gl has 4/16. wrt54g and wrt54gs >= v5 is crap (2/8)
