ZyXEL Keenetic Omni Rev. A

Under Construction!
This page is currently under construction. You can edit the article to help completing it.

Write a short, relevant description of the device. Include a technical overview, but avoid marketing buzzwords/useless stuff. Two to four sentences is about right. A picture is good, too. Edit the page to see how to add pictures.

FIXME Any text with a light background (like this one) provides instructions for creating the Details Page. When you have filled in correct/useful information (instead of any template that's there) remove the instructions, as well as the <WRAP> that encloses it.

FIXME

  1. This is an empty template that suggests the information that should be present on a well-constructed Device Page. This means, that you have to fill it with life and information.
  2. There are several “fixme” tags with text on a light background (like this text) throughout this template. As you fill in the page, remove those tags so that people can judge its completeness.
  3. When there are no more “fixme” tags left, delete this one too, along with the <WRAP> that encloses it.
  • Please include only model specific information, omit bla,bla and put everything generic into separate articles
  • If you have no time to write certain stuff, link to docs
  • base-system should lead the way, do not explain this again
  • DO NOT provide a complete howto here! Instead groom the general documentation.

Install OpenWrt (generic explanation)

OpenWrt can be installed either through the OEM firmware web interface or with the use of the U-boot TFTP recovery functionality. Having a serial console is recommended for the latter method as it allows to monitor the router status while it is being flashed.

  1. Use a PC to browse to http://my.keenetic.net.
  2. Go to the System section and open the Files tab.
  3. Under the Files tab, there will be a list of system files. Click on the Firmware file.
  4. When a modal window appears, click on the Choose File button and upload the firmware image.
  5. Wait for the router to flash and reboot.
  6. Telnet to 192.168.1.1 and set a root password or browse to http://192.168.1.1 if LuCI is installed.
  1. Download the latest firmware image and rename it to komni_recovery.bin.
  2. Set up a Tftp server on a PC (e.g. Tftpd32) and place the firmware image to the root directory of the server.
  3. Power off the router and use a twisted pair cable to connect the PC to any of the router's LAN ports.
  4. Configure the network adapter of the PC to use IP address 192.168.1.2 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
  5. Power up the router while holding the reset button pressed.
  6. Wait approximately for 5 seconds and then release the reset button.
  7. The router should download the firmware via TFTP and complete flashing in a few minutes.
  8. After flashing is complete, use the PC to browse to http://192.168.1.1 and proceed with the configuration.

Specific values needed for tftp

Required Tftp server IP address 192.168.1.2
Firmware image Firmware image must be renamed to komni_recovery.bin

Basic configuration After flashing, proceed with this.
Set up your Internet connection, configure wireless, configure USB port, etc.

FIXME Please fill in real values for this device, then remove the EXAMPLEs

The default network configuration is:

Interface Name Description Default configuration
br-lan EXAMPLE LAN & WiFi EXAMPLE 192.168.1.1/24
vlan0 (eth0.0) EXAMPLE LAN ports (1 to 4) EXAMPLE None
vlan1 (eth0.1) EXAMPLE WAN port EXAMPLE DHCP
wl0 EXAMPLE WiFi EXAMPLE Disabled

FIXME Please fill in real values for this device, then remove the EXAMPLEs

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.

Note: This will void your warranty!

Turn the router upside-down and unstick two round rubber caps that cover screws. Use a cross-head screwdriver to remove the two screws. Then turn the router over back to its normal position and remove the top plastic cover. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to do this without damaging at least some of the fasteners. However, due to the design of the case broken fasteners do not cause any trouble after reassembly.
