An indoor/outdoor 802.3af PoE 2.4 GHz Radio 2×2 MIMO 802.11n, 5 GHz Radio 4×4 MU-MIMO 802.11ac (1.733Gbps) access point.

Installation
Assuming the device is set to factory defaults, connect to the booted device via it's DHCP assigned IP address using username/password ubnt via SSH.
1. Download an older release of UAP-FlexHD firmware (5.60.16) that will allow you to install OpenWrt, newer firmware versions won't let you write to mtd partitions.
2. scp the older firmware to the device:
scp -O 'BZ.mt7621_5.60.16+13023.211005.0800.bin' ubnt@$IP:/tmp
3. Connect to the access point via SSH
ssh ubnt@$IP
3. Install the stock older firmware and wait for the device to reboot
fwupdate.real -m '/tmp/BZ.mt7621_5.60.16+13023.211005.0800.bin' -d
4. Reconnect to the access point via SSH
ssh ubnt@$IP
5. Transfer the OpenWrt sysupgrade image to the device using `scp` from your desktop, you may have to allow `ssh-dss` due to the age of the stock Ubiquiti firmware
scp -O -oHostkeyAlgorithms=+ssh-dss $SYSUPGRADE_FIRMWARE.bin ubnt@$IP:/tmp/openwrt.bin
3. Update the bootloader environment.
fw_setenv devmode TRUE
fw_setenv boot_openwrt "fdt addr \$(fdtcontroladdr); fdt rm /signature; bootubnt"
fw_setenv bootcmd "run boot_openwrt"
5. Set the bootselect flag to boot from kernel0
dd if=/dev/zero bs=1 count=1 of=/dev/mtdblock4
6. Write the OpenWrt sysupgrade image to both kernel0 as well as kernel1
dd if=openwrt.bin of=/dev/mtdblock6 dd if=openwrt.bin of=/dev/mtdblock7
7. Reboot the device. It should boot into OpenWrt.
Restore Stock Firmware
To restore the vendor firmware, follow the Ubiquiti UniFi TFTP recovery guide for access points.

The instructions below are for Broadcom devices and only serve as an example.

This section deals with
- How you install OpenWrt from a device freshly opened
- The steps required such as reset to factory defaults if the device has already been configured
Note: Reset router to factory defaults if it has been previously configured.
- Browse to
http://192.168.1.1/Upgrade.asp - Upload .bin file to router
- Wait for it to reboot
- Telnet to 192.168.1.1 and set a root password, or browse to
http://192.168.1.1if LuCI is installed.

LuCI Web Upgrade Process
- Browse to
http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/mini/system/upgrade/LuCI Upgrade URL - Upload image file for sysupgrade to LuCI
- Wait for reboot
Terminal Upgrade Process
If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line. There are two command line methods for upgrading:
sysupgrademtd
Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.
sysupgrade
- Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc
mtd
If sysupgrade does not support this router, use mtd.
- Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.
