November 2019: flashing through the OEM web interface requires that the factory image have the correct magic for the OEM web interface version.
This is correct on OpenWRT master for the latest OEM firmware version (1.1.1). This is going to be a pain, expect a patch to generate factory
images for several OEM firmwar versions eventually.
It's always possible to flash via TFTP, but the link training window is extremely tight and it will require lots of tries. A Fast Ethernet switch between the router and the TFTP server should make it more predictable. Also, TFTP client requests seem to be sent only through the WAN port (the blue connector).
Flash using web interface
Simply upload openwrt-ath79-generic-tplink_archer-c6-v2-squashfs-factory.bin via the router Web interface.
Flash using TFTP recovery
Connect the computer to one of the LAN ports of the router
Set the computer IP to 192.168.0.66
Start a tftp server with the OpenWrt factory image in the tftp root directory renamed to ArcherC6v2_tp_recovery.bin
Connect power cable to router, press and hold the reset button and turn the router on
Keep the reset button pressed until the WPS LED lights up
Remove two screws located at the bottom of the device
Pry open the shiny top. The top is really tight. Opening it will most likely break some plastic inside and will void your warranty. Perhaps this is intentional. PCB is located a good 2-3cm away from the edges in front and sides so you can use some gorilla power to get it open.
