This device is NOT RECOMMENDED for future use with OpenWrt due to low flash/ram.
DO NOT BUY DEVICES WITH 8MB FLASH / 64MB RAM if you intend to flash an up-to-date and secure OpenWrt version onto it! See 8/64 warning for details.

This device does not have sufficient resources (flash and/or RAM) to provide secure and reliable operation.
This means that you will not be able to install many packages, and that you might experience crashes due to OOM situations more or less often. See OpenWrt on 8/64 devices what you can do now.

TP-Link TL-WR902AC v3

TP-Link TL-WR902AC v3 is a pocket-size dual-band (AC750) router based on MediaTek MT7628N + MT7650E.

The only way to flash OpenWrt image in TL-WR902AC v3 is to use tftp recovery mode in U-Boot:

Specific values needed for tftp

FIXME Enter values for “FILL-IN” below

The device has an internal step down converter that is able to tolerate up to 6.5V. It is advised to keep a little safety margin. With the device fully powered up, wifi connected, ethernet unplugged, the power usage is ~1.2 watts. With a little wifi usage, power draw stays slightly below 2 watts.

With 4 SSIDs on 2,4 GHz band and 1 SSID on 5 GHz band powerconsumption is 2,1 watts on idle. With 4 SSIDs on 2,4 GHz band it is 1.7 watts idle. Values from this paragraph were measured with high accuracy ELV Energy master.

The USB port power is directly connected to the micro usb socket.

The device works reliably with an input voltage of 3.3 volts, it crashes reliably at ~2.9 volts.

Together with a USB LTE stick, the idle power usage is jumping between 1.5 and 2.5 watts, whereby little data transfer keeps it at 2.5-3 watts.

Up to 4 SSIDs are supported in 2,4 GHz band, maximum transmit power is 24 dBm (country code AU). Up to 8 SSIDs are supported in 5 GHz band, maximum transmit power is currently limited to only 12 dBm (tested country code AU and DE) due to a bug, see https://github.com/openwrt/mt76/issues/633 IEEE 802.1Q VLANs are supported. Device uses a integrated vlan capable switch.
