Installation
The only way to flash the image in TL-WR802N v4 is to use tftp recovery mode in U-Boot:
- Configure PC with static IP 192.168.0.225/24 and tftp server. Alternate server IP address that worked for me was 192.168.0.66
- Download a tfpt server application. For windows “tftp 32” works. For Mac “Pumpkin” was the easiest method for me.
- Choose the default (root) directory for your server.
- Rename
openwrt-ramips-mt76x8-tplink_tl-wr802n-v4-squashfs-tftp-recovery.bintotp_recovery.binand place it in tftp server directory. - Connect PC with the LAN port, press the reset button, power up the router and keep button pressed for around 10 seconds, until device starts downloading the file. Pumpkin on Mac by default will prompt for approval for the file transfer.
- Router will download file from server, write it to flash and reboot. The reboot process takes a couple of minutes. The light on the device will cycle through various patterns as it updates.
- When the light on the device settles on solid it should be fully rebooted.
- You can now set your computer to receive a DHCP address and login to the web GUI at 192.168.1.1
