Netgear R6800

Netgear R6800 The Netgear R6800 is a simultaneous dual band WIFI router with N/AC WiFi (2.4 & 5 GHz bands). It contains three removable external antennas. The router features 4 Gbit LAN and one Gbit WAN port. It comes with a large 128 MB NAND ROM with space for many packages and a dual core (quad thread) MIPS CPU powered by 256 MB RAM. The R6800 is based on the MT7621AT and MT7615E chips. Netgear R6800 have few clones. Two of them are fully supported: R6700v2 and AC2400. The only difference is no USB 2.0 port and Guest Wifi LED instead USB 2.0 LED in clones.

Debricking / back to stock firmware

generic.debrick

Debricking of the R6800 can be done by using the tool nmrpflash tool. See details over here: https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash

This tool can also be used to go back to stock firmware. For Windows users, ethernet cable must be connected to a switch or nmrpflash would fail to operate.

:!: This process only works with OEM firmware, don't try to flash OpenWrt images with nmrpflash.

Opening the case

Netgear R6800 case have five screws: four torx under leg tape (red mark on photo) and one secure torx in the middle (green). After screws removal, top case can be removed easily.

Serial

port.serial general information about the serial port, serial port cable, etc.

Serial connector isn't connected to CPU by default. Is required to solder two jumpers on resistors: R195, R26.
