ipTime A3004T is a WiFi 5 AC1300 wireless router based on the MT7621 platform with USB 3.0 port.

It's been discontinued and replaced to A3004TW, A white model with less RAM, Flash (Using SPI-NOR instead of NAND), and without USB port.

ipTime A3004T

Note: White device in picture is A3004TW. Which is not compatible with A3004T firmware. Be careful that many sellers are just listed A3004TW as A3004T.

Install OpenWrt (generic explanation)

See below section.

This device uses NAND. but OEM made stock firmware flash layout like a normal spi-nor layout unlike other models. OpenWRT firmware follows this decision.

Layer0 raw flash, 131072 KiB
Layer1 mtd0
u-boot
512 KiB
mtd1
config (u-boot-env)
64 KiB
mtd2
factory
64 KiB
mtd3
firmware
130752 KiB
Layer2 mtd4
kernel
about 4 MiB
mtd5
ubi

Note: Stock OEM firmware has dual-boot functionality. as divide firmware partition. Above layout is OpenWRT firmware.

Note that sometime this will be failed. if failed, use below method. (using recovery)

1. Flash initramfs image via OEM GUI method.
2. Perform sysupgrade using sysupgrade image via SSH or LuCI.

1-1. Power up with holding down the reset key until CPU LED stop blinking.
1-2. or Disassemble and Open the router, Get Serial access, holding `F` during bootloader process.

2. Set fixed ip with 192.168.0.2 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
3. Flash initramfs image via tftp to 192.168.0.1
4. Perform sysupgrade using sysupgrade image via SSH or LuCI.

Specific values needed for tftp

Bootloader tftp server IPv4 address 192.168.0.1
Firmware tftp image Latest OpenWrt release (NOTE: use initramfs image)
TFTP client required IP address 192.168.0.2
TFTP client required subnet mask 255.255.255.0
  • Browse to http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/mini/system/upgrade/ LuCI Upgrade URL
  • Upload image file for sysupgrade to LuCI
  • Wait for reboot

If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line. There are two command line methods for upgrading:

  • sysupgrade

Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.

sysupgrade

  • Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc
sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc

failsafe_and_factory_reset

Try with OEM installation using the TFTP recovery method but using OEM firmware or initramfs image.

Basic configuration After flashing, proceed with this.
Set up your Internet connection, configure wireless, configure USB port, etc.

The default network configuration is:

Interface Name Description Default configuration
br-lan LAN & WiFi 192.168.1.1/24
wl0 WiFi Disabled
Port Switch port
Internet (WAN) 0
LAN 1 4
LAN 2 3
LAN 3 2
LAN 4 1
