The GL.iNet GL-MT1300 v1 is a small, lightweight router intended for travel use, first released in 2021. It has three Ethernet ports, two 802.11ac/Wi-fi 5 radios (one 2.4GHz/5GHz dual-band and one 5GHz), a MicroSD card slot, and one USB Type A port for peripherals. It's two antennas are integrated into the chassis as rotating arms, one on either side. GL.iNet ships the device with a customized version of OpenWrt that uses their own web UI by default.

After installing OpenWrt 21.02, the iwinfo, libiwinfo, and libiwinfo-lua need updating to understand mutli-phy radio path syntax. Without this, editing wireless networks on the second radio will produce the error “TypeError chan.options[0] is undefined”. The update can be done via LuCI's System → Software → Updates tab or via the command line:

opkg update; opkg upgrade iwinfo libiwinfo libiwinfo-lua

If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line.

Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.

  • Login as root via SSH on 192.168.8.1, then enter the following commands:

On devices with a physical reset button, OpenWrt can be reset to default settings without serial or SSH access.

  1. Power on the device and wait for the status led to stop flashing (or go into failsafe mode, as described above).
  2. Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds.
  3. Release the reset button.

The device will do a hard factory reset (see below) and then reboot. This operation can be slow on some devices, so wait a few minutes before connecting again.

If you want a clean slate, there’s no need to flash again; just enter the following commands. Your device's settings will be reset to defaults like when OpenWrt was first installed.

Issuing “firstboot” or “jffs2reset” command will attempt to delete all files from the jffs2 overlay partition. Note that this “soft reset” is performed with file system actions, so in some cases it is not enough.

Note: If the commands above (all on one line) don't work, try those commands on separate lines in the terminal.

Note: for most routers, “firstboot” actually just issues a “jffs2reset” command, so there is not much difference compared to the “hard reset” advice below.

Note: if you're issuing this command inside a bash script, remember to add the option -y to force firstboot:

firstboot -y && reboot now

Basic configuration After flashing, proceed with this.
Set up your Internet connection, configure wireless, configure USB port, etc.

Base on the OpenWrt firmware, the default network configuration is:

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.
