ELECOM WRC-X6000QS

Under Construction!
This page is currently under construction. You can edit the article to help completing it.

Write a short, relevant description of the device. Include a technical overview, but avoid marketing buzzwords/useless stuff. Two to four sentences is about right. A picture is good, too. Edit the page to see how to add pictures.

ELECOM WRC-X6000QS

FIXME

  1. The tables below are automatically generated, once the correct filters for Brand and Model are set.
  2. If the tables below show information for ELECOM WRC-X6000QS , everything is OK and you can delete this text and the <WRAP> that encloses it.
  3. If the tables below contain “Nothing found”, it means that either
    1. the dataentry page for ELECOM WRC-X6000QS is missing. Please create a new dataentry page first, then reload this page. The tables should then contain $something. If they do, delete this text and the <WRAP> that encloses it.
    2. filters are not set correctly. Most common reason for “Nothing found”: The dataentry does not contain a Version, but we are filtering here for version → Please edit this section and adjust the filters with the proper Brand, Model and Version. In case the dataentry does not contain a version, delete the line filter : Versions~. Just try, it's easy. The tables should then contain $something. If they do, delete this text and the <WRAP> that encloses it.
  4. If the tables still contain “Nothing found”: Don't panic, calm down, take a deep breath and contact a wiki admin (tmomas) for help.

FIXME The instructions below are for Broadcom devices and only serve as an example.
Remove / modify them if they do not apply to this particular device!

This section deals with

  • How you install OpenWrt from a device freshly opened
  • The steps required such as reset to factory defaults if the device has already been configured

Note: Reset router to factory defaults if it has been previously configured.

  • Browse to http://192.168.1.1/Upgrade.asp
  • Upload .bin file to router
  • Wait for it to reboot
  • Telnet to 192.168.1.1 and set a root password, or browse to http://192.168.1.1 if LuCI is installed.

Specific values needed for tftp

FIXME Enter values for “FILL-IN” below

Bootloader tftp server IPv4 address FILL-IN
Bootloader MAC address (special) FILL-IN
Firmware tftp image Latest OpenWrt release (NOTE: Name must contain “tftp”)
TFTP transfer window FILL-IN seconds
TFTP window start approximately FILL-IN seconds after power on
TFTP client required IP address FILL-IN

→ generic.sysupgrade

FIXME These are generic instructions. Update with your router's specifics.

  • Browse to http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/mini/system/upgrade/ LuCI Upgrade URL
  • Upload image file for sysupgrade to LuCI
  • Wait for reboot

If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line. There are two command line methods for upgrading:

  • sysupgrade
  • mtd

Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.

sysupgrade

  • Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc
sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc

mtd

If sysupgrade does not support this router, use mtd.

  • Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc
mtd write /tmp/xxx.abc linux && reboot

→ Basic configuration After flashing, proceed with this.
Set up your Internet connection, configure wireless, configure USB port, etc.

The default network configuration is:

Interface Name Description Default configuration
br-lan bridge LAN (1-4) & WiFi 192.168.1.1/24
wan WAN 2.5G port DHCP
wan6 same as WAN DHCPv6

Numbers 1-4 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, wan is the blue Internet (WAN) on the unit.

Box Port Switch port
Internet (WAN) wan
LAN 1 lan1
LAN 2 lan2
LAN 3 lan3
LAN 4 lan4

→ hardware.button on howto use and configure the hardware button(s). Here, we merely name the buttons, so we can use them in the above Howto.

FIXME Please fill in real values for this device, then remove the EXAMPLEs

The ELECOM WRC-X6000QS has the following buttons:

→ port.serial general information about the serial port, serial port cable, etc.

You need to solder pins to four holes on a PCB, pins order is Vcc, Tx, Rx, NC, Gnd counting from triangle mark.

Serial connection parameters 115200, 8N1, 3.3V

 wrc-x6000qs serial

Stock U-Boot's menu is blocked via env var bootmenu_delay set to zero. You can unlock menu and enter U-Boot cmd line from a stock firmware.

  • boot router normally, watch for console output till it hits fail-safe prompt stage and you see message like press f ...
  • immediately press f then enter to interrupt boot process
  • unlock boot menu with commands
  • root_mount
    /usr/sbin/fw_setenv bootmenu_delay 3
    reboot

After soldering pins and connecting USB-to-serial adapters you might face kernel crash bootloops caused by wireless initialization failure. You might see the following messages in serial log:

it could possibly be caused by some serial converters or by interference with antenna cables. Try to reroute cables away from serial pins or replace USB-to-serial adapter. Find more details at Banana Pi BPi-R3 page.
