Edimax NS-1500N

Tested with a modified fonera 2.0n openwrt firmware image.

Usb, wifi, lan, all seem to work.

It uses the Ralink RT3050 SoC, wifi drivers are binary and only work with 2.6.21 kernel, so don't expect latest trunk to be stable for while yet.

This is more of an FYI than a guide as its very ghetto and could potential brick your device YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I recommend backing up your firmware if you do attempt flashing as there are no recovery images available.

I've only tested installing firmware via serial.

Pressing 2 while Uboot starts lets you flash an image via tftp.

I used the fonera 2.0n build system to produce a fon/openwrt firware.

The only requirements to get it to boot is editing the kernel config for 32mb RAM and the RT3050.

MiniEMBWiFi available at Omnima is based on the same reference design. The differences are as follows:

  1. MiniEMBWiFi board has the serial port taken to a 4 pin 2.54mm pitch pinheader as standard
  2. USB to serial JP2 pinheader cable is provided as an optional accessory
  3. There are two plastic cases available for MiniEMBWiFi: Baige color case - for those who like a reto-80s look and feel, and aWhite color case with rounded edges - an up to date modern design
  4. STM32 Expander daughter board is available as an add-on to MiniEMBWiFi to provide additional capabilities for interfacing with 1-wire, Z-Wave, LCDs, X10, 2.4GHz radio communication, etc
