  • Get prebuilt brcm63xx generic 8MB firmware image (target board '963281TAN')
  • Unplug the power cord
  • Press the reset button, don't release it yet!
  • Plug the power cord
  • Wait 10 seconds until the power button turns red
  • Release the reset button
  • Connect ethernet cable and set a static ip address on computer
  • Browse to http://192.168.1.1
  • Select previously downloaded image file
  • Upload the image
  • Wait for it to reboot
  • Telnet to 192.168.1.1 and set a root password, or browse to http://192.168.1.1 for LuCI.

If you have already installed OpenWrt and like to reflash for e.g. upgrading to a new OpenWrt version you can upgrade using the mtd command line tool. It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.

Basic configuration After flashing, proceed with this.
Set up your Internet connection, configure wireless, configure USB port, etc.

In LuCI, add a second VLAN to the switch and move one of the ethernet ports to it. You will also need to add the second VLAN to the WAN Zone in the firewall and set up interfaces.

The maximum NAT throughput is about 94 Mbps (port maximum). When SQM (cake) is enabled, this falls to about 50Mbps.

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.
