Hardware Highlights
First Time Installation
If you are installing OpenWRT on the Newfast A882 for the first time and you want to revert back to the OEM firmware you have first to make a dump of the flash memory (see the related section below: link) because the firmware of the Newfast NF-A882 has not been released to the public.

- Download *-sysupgrade.bin firmware file (using the “Firmware OpenWrt Upgrade URL” in the table above)
- Connect the bundled PoE injector to power.
- Connect the PC to the LAN1 or LAN2 port of the device.
- Configure a static IP on the computer's Ethernet adapter:
- IP: 192.168.1.x (x = 2 to 254)
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: empty
- DNS: empty
- Connect a second Ethernet cable to the PoE port of the bundled injector.
- Press and hold the reset button on the device.
- While holding the reset button, plug the other end of the second Ethernet cable into the WAN port.
- Wait at least 3 seconds, then release the reset button.
- Browse to http://192.168.1.1: the MediaTek U-Boot System Recovery page should appear.
- Click Upload and select the *-sysupgrade.bin firmware file.
- After flashing completes, browse to http://192.168.1.1 again: the LuCI login page should appear.

- Connect the bundled PoE injector to power.
- Connect the PC to the LAN1 or LAN2 port of the device.

- After flashing completes, browse to http://192.168.10.1: the Comfast login page should appear.
Dump of the OEM firmware
While the Comfast CF-EW84 firmware can be downloaded from the vendor website, the Newfast NF-A882 firmware must be dumped form the flash using the following instructions:
- Ensure that you can connect a PC via ethernet (not via wifi) to the device
- Unlock the root SSH access uploading this backup configuration file in the OEM GUI backup.file
- SSH as root to the device and make a dump of all the partitions (see in the section below how to do that using few SSH commands)
- Save the oem_full_flash.bin file in a secure place, out of the device (e.g. using the scp command)
- extract the firmware (see in the section below how to do that using few SSH commands)

Serial
How to connect to the Serial Port of this specific device:
- Identify the serial pins (VCC, GND, TX, RX).
- The device has NOT factory-soldered pins, you have to solder it.
- GND pin is recommended to be connected.
It is recommended NOT connect VCC pin as device powers from PoE.
It is recommended to connect serial adapter through active (with separate power) USB hub. Avoid connecting to usb port connected to computer motherboard. CF-EW84 has 48V on PCB, and if 48V will somehow hit your USB, it may damage your PC, including CPU.
- In some situations device may not start when RX pin is connected - so, connect it right after you see output from device.
- Connected RX also may cause random 5GHz Wi-Fi chip problems.

Known issues
After a soft reset it may happen that 5Ghz radio is not working. Normally, it is correlated to the following logs:
