AVM FRITZ!Box 7330 (SL)

A Lantiq AR9 based 802.11bgn ADSL2+ CPE with DECT and connectors for analog phones as well as 2 USB 2.0 ports. Also marketed as “FRITZ!Box 1&1 HomeServer”.

Has similar hardware like AVM FRITZ!Box 7320 - same Firmware can be used.

LAN1 (Atheros AR8035 1Gbit PHY) working.

LAN2 (Atheros AR8030-A, SK4P7.4D 1242 CN, 10/100 Mbps PHY) not working.

Serial & TFTP

  • get a TFTP Server, e.g. tftpgui version 2.2 - version 3.1 (did not work on Ubuntu 16.10, April2017) and required packages: sudo apt-get install python python-tk
  • set PC-Lan-IP to: 192.168.178.3, Sub: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 192.168.178.1
  • start tftpgui: sudo python tftpgui.py
  • start serial terminal, e.g.: sudo screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200
  • power on FRITZ!Box and wait till boot finished
  • press Enter to activate BusyBox console:

Web Interface

Flashing via the Webinterface is not working at the moment. (march 2021)

Default IP: 192.168.178.1 (OEM Firmware), 192.168.1.1 (LEDE, OpenWrt)

Emergency OEM IP: Box is always available on http://169.254.1.1. Set PC IP-address manually in range of 169.254.1.x If a default password is set try: 0000

FTP

Flashing a non fitting image causes Box not to boot. Flashing back firmware_backup or stock_kernel.image via FTP helps.

OpenWrt can be installed via the EVA bootloader. The EVA bootloader waits in the first 5 seconds after power-on for an FTP connection on 192.168.178.1. Set your IP address to 192.168.178.2 and upload the image like following.

Important: while flashing wait for ftp promt showing up again or watch in serial terminal: erase mtd1 .... flash .....

Power on happens around five seconds after plugging in the power supply. All LEDs flash once. ping 192.168.178.1 can help to see this time window. If this time window is not available for some reason, it is also possible to interrupt boot by immediately pressing a key in serial terminal and then start the FTP connection.

(optional) erase configuration partition mtd3 & mtd4 → default FTP-IP address (192.168.178.1) can change to 192.168.2.1

Flashing Bootloader not tested & recommended (watch out for mtd2).

→ get stock firmware → rename it to .tar → find and extract kernel.image → flash kernel.image

→ bootloop of a faulty device → build a minimal firmware.image:

  • make menuconfig
  • check everything @ “Removal patches” except “Remove WLAN
  • @ “Other patches” disable all “AVM daemons”
  • rename firmware.image to .tar → find and extract kernel.image → flash kernel.image

The USB ports must be switched on by controlling the GPIO pins 50 and 51. Per default the powerlines are off and attached devices will not work.

Steps:

  • Copy the script gpiocontrol.sh from port.gpio
  • sh gpiocontrol.sh 50 out 1 and sh gpiocontrol.sh 51 out 1
  • Now the USB ports are working. To do this automatically at startup add the two commands to /etc/rc.local
