Loading OpenWRT
Apply the folowing steps to flash the firmware:
- Copy the files 'openwrt-octeon-generic-ubnt_edgerouter-8-xg-initramfs-kernel.bin' and 'openwrt-octeon-generic-ubnt_edgerouter-8-xg-squashfs-sysupgrade.tar' to a USB flash drive. Ensure that the USB flash drive is formatted to VFAT/FAT32
- make sure that the EdgeRouter is powered off
- connect USB flash drive to EdgeRouter front USB port
- connect serial cable using front console RJ45 port
Baud rate: 115200 Data bits: 8 Parity: NONE Stop bits: 1 Flow control: NONE
- connect power to cable to EdgeRouter
- connect terminal to the console to see uboot boot process (example Linux terminal)
pc_user / # picocom -b 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0 (replace ttyUSB0 for the serial device that will be used for this)
- power on the EdgeRouter
- interrupt boot by pressing (random) button(s) on your keyboard to log in to the uboot
- detect usb connected flash drives by typing to the console: usb start
- after drive is detected load initramfs+kernel to the memory by typing: fatload usb 0:0 0x20000000 openwrt-octeon-generic-ubnt_edgerouter-8-xg-initramfs-kernel.bin
- after initramfs+kernel is loaded to the memory load it by typing: bootoctlinux 0 numcores=16 endbootargs mem=0
