Entry level dual band wireless router sold in Walmart as N600. Appears to have the same hardware as 5300 (AC750), E5350 (AC1000) and E5400 (AC1200), with the E2500v4 limited by software to lower speeds. FCC aggreement covers the four devices https://fccid.link/Q87/-03418

It has 1 WAN 100 Mbps port and 4 LAN 100 Mbps ports with status LEDs and two non-detachable external antennas.

IMPORTANT

This version uses a different CPU than v1-3 and it is not compatible with their firmware. Conversely, v4 firmware will not work on previous versions.

User-built images are available in github. You can alternatively download the code and build them images for your own router.

1. Lift the lower corners of the sticker in the bottom of the device to reveal two philips screws
2. Remove the screws
3. With a spudger or other edged object, go around the top cover of the device, separating it from the bottom section of the body
4. Remove the cover gently pulling towards the front of the device and up

port.serial There is no need to provide Vcc if you power the device with its adapter. Make sure your cable/programmer can provide enough power if you want to connect without external power. You can use any USB to serial converter to connect to this port.

Looking at the pcb from the top front of the device, the serial port is located on the right-hand side, in the middle of the board.
There are 5 holes as follows

It is recommended to solder a header to make connections easier unless your serial port attaches to pcb holes.

Note that factory u-boot does not properly round value when calculating clock divider for UART speed. Real value is close to 119050, quite far from 115200, that can cause glitches. Linux kernel use a better rounded value, to a value a little bit lower than 115200.

It appears that the only difference between this device and the faster E5400 is the firmware. When running OpenWRT, the device reports speeds equivalent to AC1200, double than its advertised N600. More testing is needed to confirm this behavior (July 2022).
